This great shot was sent to me by “rcscience” and is a shot of the last “tiger” leaving England AFB LA. In 1992. RC explains the aircraft was parked so the local dignitaries, who were in attendance, couldn’t see the nose art until he turned and taxied by them. The word “CENLA” was a common term used around England AFB for Central Louisiana.

He also explains the art was removed at EOR because he was headed to Shaw AFB for General Horner’s retirement and then on to Pope which would be the wing, and aircraft’s, new home. This was a significant, yet fleeting, moment in the A-10s history. It was a sad yet dignified goodby to the 23rd Flying Tigers home, and the people who had supported them for so long, and so well. The tear coming from the eye of the Tiger says it all…..

Great photo Dice. I was there when the first A-10 taxied in, and I wish I could have been there when the last one taxied out.I can remember watching the first one land and park on the point in front of the tower, and thinking how lucky I was going to be to crew a ''brand new aircraft.''Im like Goose, and will always consider EAFB,and the 23rd ''home''.

Goose/Rayboy, I thought you guys would like that picture! Don't think me, thanks Col. Lemon for being nice enough to share this bit of A-10 history with all of us.

Bacon Bits, this would surely be a nice pic to highlight a chapter in a book on say....the hawg shuffle (base closures) following Desert Storm!

Great photo, along with some good memories of EAFB and the 74th. Got a hankering for some crawdads and seafood gumbo, too. But, working with fellow A-10 CC's was the best. Oh, and Tiger Thrust exercises..ugh!
