Silly question D.B, are we talking FY82.....or the actual year they were built, I think the FY82's would have rolled off the production line about 83/84?.
If it is FY82's, aircraft such as 82-664 and 665...and others, never have served in USAFE.

Ok...let me be more specific. When we did all the switcharoo with units in the early 90's, all of the jets that were posessed by the unit were 82-XXXX model jets. Not all 82-XXXX's were at Spang.
Today there are some other model year jets there because of attrition.
Clear now?

Er....no.
At the time of the 81st TFW drawdown in about 1992, they had FY76/79/80/81/82's, Spang only got FY81's and 82's and then later got back a FY80 and a FY81 from Nellis as attrition replacements.
These long distance debates are great aren't they?

I had to dig back into my files and check, and I'll admit my memory is faulty. Spang had all tail number 81-XXX's and and hand full of 82's after the drawdown.
My bad.

Not to add to the confusion, but the other night in Corrosion I saw a plaque on the wall that read "DCM Maintenance Excellence Award.....Presented to the 343rd (I think) corrosion section for the outstanding work in transferring the A-10s to Battle Creeck ANG...1991 ((I think)"

It was presented from Eielson to the unit at Eielson, it is not a thank you plaque from BC to Eielson.
Since BC is the only unit it mentioned, it leads me to assume that the majority of jets that were transferred from here went there. I dunno, but I figure I can always help add to the chaos.

Interesting thread so far but, I believe you guys are getting a little off-track. I'm not asking what aircraft went where (I have that info) but, why they were moved during this time.

Sorry Dice, my fault for helping it off track, as far as the Spangdahlem move was concerned it was always intended, as has been seen) to be a permanent move.
Looking forward to the book when it comes to fruition.

I believe part of the moving between Pope and Shaw had to do with the F-16/C130/C141 crash at Pope. After that incident they wanted to get the fast movers out of Pope.

Speaking of moving Pope (and Eielson), we had originally been told that we would start shuttign down around Oct 2007. Then last week they come down add say, no, now Oct 2006. And that it wont be slow, it will be more like bam, 21 gone. So... Will we be movign to Pope only to move to Moody, or straight to Moody? I thought Pope wasn't supposed to move until 2007.

Jackb, if it goes like it has in the past the moves/realinment will go pretty quickly, once it's offical it seems most would like to get it done as quickly as they can...kinda' like pulling a tooth!

When Eielson spun back up in 94' we had the jets and the pilots pretty quick, but the transfer of maintainers went slow. At the start it was rough because those of us in place were humping like crazy because they were flying a full schedule without everybody there yet.

Kind of like now. There's 9 of us on swings. Less if someone has an appointment or class.
