What a great website. I was in tears most of the time looking at it. I was a member of the 23 TFW at McConnell AFB near Wichita KS '64-'66 and '69-'72. I have always liked tigers and being a member of the "Flying Tigers" was a high point in my life. The Tiger paint on the A-10 and the "BITE" of the gun plus everything it can do make the A-10 my favorite aircraft. I worked on the F-105, but I wished I could have been closer to the A-10.
The only thing I might suggest is (if you can) to add a sound bite of the gun, maybe a 5-10 sec burst. I don't know enough about computers to suggest how to do it, but I would very much like to hear it again.
Thanks again for a great site about the A-10.

Wade

Wade, welcome to WT and thank you for your service. Pull up a chair and pop a top on your favorite beverage. Join in some of the best talk on the web concerning the A-10 and other topics.

Wade,

Welcome Aboard, McConnell AFB was the 23rds Hurrivac Area when I was at England AFB with the 23rd. Nice base and I still have my "
W.E.Coyotee hat from there<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

At the The now Closed England AFB we had a whole airpark dedicated to the history of the Unit and The F-105 was a big part of it.
She looked good next to the A-10 and the other Aircraft.

Some of the Statics have been taken away but I think theres a picture somewhere around here of the F-105 on Static at the park.

Again Welcome aboard.

Wade, let me echo Fender’s comments and thank you for your service to our country. This is a nice place to “hang-out” and talk about everything A-10 and any other subject you may wish to talk about. If you haven’t already visit my A-10 website at www.warthogpen.com again welcome aboard and hope you enjoy your stay.

Goose, I have this pic from Hawgsmoke 2004 if it’s the one you are thinking about.

I think a team from (Pope AFB?) came down and took the P-40 even before the base was closed

The A-10, F-105, A-7 and P-40 are at the Pope air park. I suspect they will be in southwestern Georgia within a couple of years.

update on the England Airpark....as the base was closing in late 1992, the P-40 at the England Airpark was sent to Pope AFB...all the remaining jets A-10, F-105, A-7 (in Tiger Livery) and The F-86(painted as John England's in Europe when he was killed) remained....The City Of Alexandria had an old F-84F at Bringhurst Park..it had ben painted olive drab camo...with house paint I think....but as Wing commander at the time I offered if they would put it at the airpark we would refurbish it to represent the 393Fighter Bomber Sq...based at alex in the early-mid 50's...we had lots of mantenance troops there w/o aircraft and a bunch of folks pitched in and turned it into a thing of beauty...we mounted it on the former P-40 pedestal in the takeoff attitude and the gear coming up....I returned there qa couple of years ago @004 and all the aircraft are still there and amazingly enough still in gorgeous condition...although a few of the manakin flight suits are faded badly
if assing by on I-49..it is worth a stop a t the England Indusrtial Airpark to see...cheers all
