On Google Earth I searched for Fort Smith to flag it as a A-10 based AFB. But mine problem is that i can't find it. I see an airport by the city Fort Smith, but i think that is a civil airport. Does somebody knows the coördinates of the base Fort Smith?
Thanks allready for helping me.

The Guard unit at Ft Smith does not have a seperate base. Its part of the regional airport that you saw. You wont be able to see their airplanes on the flightline as they have gone to the sunshades like many of the other bases have now. When you look at the map at the north end of the airport you will see a small green pond, to the right of that you will see what appears to be 2 long tan buildings. Those are the sunshades.

Sunshades? Whats up with that?
For years it was good enough that we all worked in the direct sunlight, but now they get shades?

Wussies. No shades at Bagram, either. Things get a little toasty there, don't they Raven?!

I would have killed to have something like that working the line while I was at D-M in the 70's & 80's. They have them at D-M now. The flightline at Hill has them now as well.

The 188th is co-located on the Ft Smith Regional Airport. The sun shades was for our Noble Eagle alert mission. They have since removed the shades because the A-10 would not fit. They are currently erecting 3 on the south side of the ramp for the maintainers.

Damn straight. Saw more folks wearing gloves in the Summer than the Winter. Leave a BFW laying in the sun for more than a few minutes and it could give you 2nd degree burns.
