Recently the general of USAFE has established a new rule no art on jets so no more panther heads on our A-10s here and the stab caps have changed as well no longer will they be black with white or yellow lighting bolt. Being that the Air Force has gone back to maintenance squadrons. The 52d AMXS has three squadrons. Two lawn dart squadron and then us. So we are the gold unit here which means our stab caps are painted yellow now. Also no names on jets and all ladder door art is gone as well. Pictures will follow

This goes in cycles and I've seen it a couple of times in the past, one commander wants conformity and the next wants his unit to "stand-out".
I've heard the rumor PACAF is looking at this also....at least I have photos of a large number of the artwork done in the past few years. <img src=newicons/bounce.gif border=0 align=middle>

i don't get it... if this political crap is the reason that the Spangdahlem A-10's can't wear those markings anymore, what's the next step then? removing tailcodes? i think the "SP" code is more obvious than the "panther" on the side of the motor..

Its often the case with new leaders be it in the military or the civilian world, that they want to make their 'mark' or stamp their own personal authority on their new command no matter how insane the idea may be.
This rule does seem excessive, it would make sense in a theatre of combat but not in peacetime.......surely the Panthers can carry special marks for Hawgsmoke 2004?
The last USAFE Hog squadron to have yellow caps were the 92nd TFS 'Skulls' at Bentwaters.

SAME THING McPEAK DID WITH THE UNIFORMS, NO-ONE CAN JUST LEAVE SOMETHING ALONE.
WITH TODAYS USAF BEING CALLED TO DO THE MISSION OF A 2X BIGGER USAF YOU THINK DOORART AND THE SUCH WOULD BE A SMALL THING TO WORRY ABOUT.
HECK I KNOW SOME OF YOU REMEMBER THE T-SHIRT "UPROAR"
NO MORE TANK TOP T-SHIRTS,BECAUSE SOMEONE SAW HAIRY ARM-PIT AND THEN TURNED AROUND MADE CREWNECKS T-SHIRTS OUT BECAUSE YOU COULD SEE THEM.

It is Gen "Doc" Fogelsong, and you have to see all the AFN commercials he is doing sitting in "Triple 7", his "Viper" (speaking of which, when did the "Fighting Falcon" go out of style? It is worse than trying to figure out if that Brit strike aircraft is called a "Tor-na-do" or "Tor-o-na-do"). Anyhoo, "Doc" is trying to outgun Gen B.B. Bell, CG of USAREUR, and it is a hoot to see who has the latest AFN commercial. Fogelsong's latest is about "wingman consideration" and how it applies to dependents...errr..."family members." The Army bubbas in my office are constantly asking me what in the hell he is talking about!

Shame about the Spang hogs, why is it all right to put all this "Let's Roll" BS on the jets but nothing else? This may be an urban myth, but <i>waaaaaaaay</i> back in the day at the 81 TFW, there was a rumor that pilot's helmets had to be white as the camo made them look "too aggressive"(!) Honestly, I think that is not true, it was probably a safety issue of some kind, but the mere fact that rumors like that get started and spread like wildfire are a sure indication that the troops don't have 100% confidence in the leadership.

Please infer no disrespect to anyone, living or dead, who outranks me or may one day be my boss in the previous comments! I am in enough hot water as it is!

The Panther heads actually stem from the fact that someone dug too deep into the paint scheme regs, and found out that the heads were never MAJCOM waivered like Pope's teeth and Eilson's Constellation. Unfortunately our waiver package never made it past the Wing King (No clue why.) The stab caps are abig controversy, but that was the MXGs call...the reg reads that they should represent the units historical color (black), but the MXG argues that they now belong to the 52 AMXS who's history only spans the past year and a half, and that "Gold" is the AMUs color. Unfortunately, I have heard their "gold" referred to as a "cowardly yellow." It's a crappy deal, but that's the point we are stuck at for now until the right paperwork makes it to commanders that care about the details, and our unit's receding pride.

We went through that crap when I was at Eielson. Whe I got there the stabs where red and then we got a new commander that decided they need to be black to better reflect our patch.
Just be patient. When your next cycle of leadership takes over it will probably change back.

Just read an article in the Air Force Times about the new fitness program. There was a blurb in there about how Doc F had a nearly perfect score. Pitty you poor saps in USAFE. He's going to have you all out running around the flightline like he does.

did the "Pope" jets ever have any unit art besides the teeth? I believe I saw a sim screenshot of the teeth on the nose with a black mustang above the wing on the sides of the fusalage.
