I forgot one, we also had 78-0687. It's a display bird @ Fort Campbell Kentucky.
We used to turn jets down there occasionally and one day on landing 0687, the nose wheel turned 90 degrees from center on touch down. The tire rolled off the wheel, the wheel broke off, the nose gear dug into the runway and broke off at the mounts. When the nose hit the ground it broke the fuselage at FS365. The pilot rode it out and luckly the jet didn't flip. The gun barrels were ground nearly to the center bolt on the clamp.
Since this happened during the reduction in force after DS, there was no incentive to fix it.
We sent the pieces in to figure out what happened, but I don't recall ever getting an answer. With all the turbulence going on at the time I doubt anyone really cared. It was one less A-10 to worry about.
Cheers

Alot of former WR birds in that list D.B.
During the drawdown of the 81st TFW the jets appeared to have been split between DM, IN and SW.
The last squadron out of Alconbury sent alot of its jets to Shaw.
Some of those tails look so familiar from airshows here in the UK during the 80's.

Yes they are. Our part in all that transitionary time was that our 76 and 77 model jets went to the boneyard and were replaced with jets from the UK.
That was a very hard time for us. All of our "older" jets had less time on them than the "newer" jets that replaced them.
Being a Reserve unit, some of our crew chiefs had been on the same jet from the day we got them.

From what I was able to glean out of all my old papers, here are the tails from Grissom that ended up at Moody via Shaw....

79-0191, 79-0216, 80-0149, 80-0158, 80-0171, 80-0181, 80-0205, 80-0272, 80-0276, 80-0279.

80-0158 was lost on final approach at Osan in 2001.
