Nope...I'm out of the UXO business...one of the few good things about Civil Service...but I miss active duty from time to time...especially working the A-10....

Man, anyone got a picture of this thing or some kind of specs for it?

If any of that were to somehow anonymously find it's way into my email i would be most grateful. :)

I'm searching my files and consulting my previous associates, who are scattered around the country. It's gonna take a little time. Coming soon. Watch this space.

Seriously though after looking at how hard the designers try to hide the fan blades of the jet engines in modern fighter, one must wonder what the hell the hog looks like on radar.

Frieght train maybe?

You didn't mention the titanium bathtub. That must be just as bad.

a "treated" canopy takes care of the tub.

I think he is refering to the sides of the cockpit. I would imagine its makes quite a nice reflective surface for radar energy.

A new canopy would take care of the canopy. You'd need something special for two inches of titanium.

unless the RADAR is to be going <u>through</u> the outer panels of the fusalage (it wont) I dont see the tub making a contribution to RCS. The "tub" sits INSIDE the fusalage. Can you be more specific as to what your talking about?

The outside of the tub IS the fuselage. There are no panels that cover the tub on the outside.

Your right Matt, For once you actually "technically" contributed to an A10 (aircraft related) thread. Holy Smokes! I'm impressed.

You give a very important central point to this discussion. Stator and First Fan Blades are the signifigant producer of RCS on an aircraft nose on.

But of course your assuming this new Tank buster has a "Turbine" <img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>

so the ladder door is benethe the tub and the avionics racks are behind the tub?
how is the tub attached? Is it welded to the longerons front and rear? I assume it would be used as a bulkhead to save a little weight?

Yes

"how is the tub attached? Is it welded to the longerons front and rear? I assume it would be used as a bulkhead to save a little weight?"

Its attached the way most things are in aircraft construction.....nuts, bolts and rivits. The tub is titanium in the front, the sides and the bottom. The aft portion is an aluminum bulkhead. The first tubs had a titanium aft bulkhead but that changed halway through the 76 tail number series.

"it takes a turbine to kill a turban, that's what I always say <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>"

Always? lol
