Goose,
I hear you loud and clear. Here in SC we lost Myrtle Beach AFB, and Charleston Naval Base. Now the Govenor has said Shaw is probably on the next hit list. That would leave Charleston AFB (C-17's) and McEntyre Reserve AFB (F-16CJ's). Same mission as Shaw. If this base goes I am retiring. I be damned if I move this late in the game.

The A-10 will always get spotty coverage from the media. Were too busy getting the job done to take the credit. Though between all the AD A-10s and all the Guard and Res A-10s I've worked on I would have to Say the Gaurds 120 ( I think its an 80-120) is the best looking A-10 in the inventory. I give it up to that Aircraft (even though is a guard winnie hog). As far as nose art I've always been partial to the Rhino paint job with the tusks. Any one with pics?

Of course MeSo, The Warthog with the tusks, (Rhino with tusks=samething) I think that nose art looks sharp, better than the tiger teeth. That is of course only my humble opinion though.

A Rhino with tusks would be an F-4 Phantom...with tusks. ;)

Ever seen one of those Dice?

What unit or units had the Hawg with the tusks on it ? Do they still have them ? Are they authorized ? Were they just on during the Gulf War ? Anyone wanna play thirty questions ? <img src=icon_smile_clown.gif border=0 align=middle>

By this time tomorrow I shall have gained either a pearage or Westminster Abbey........Nelson

Barksdale AFB (the A-10 fighter weapons birds) have the Tusk. However, during war time, most units have been awarded the right to paint them on if they wish. Most opt, not to. Not their nose art, not going to do it!

I still reserve the right to think that Barksdale's paint job looks more like a Rhino than a Warthog, that aside I still think its the sharpest looking official paint.

422 I took that photo when the pope demo jet came here to depot this year. If you look you will see this jet is also the only one left flying with an air-to-air kill durind. There's more photos of it on the "wall of fame" section of my website...

...also talking about nose art you should read my section on nose art...

Personally I do like the warthog teeth over the shark's teeth, back in "the day" (old fart time) we looked down on the latter when I was at the 81st 'cause it was too flashy. When you are sitting nose-to-nose with Ivan ready to start WWIII, you didn't paint funny shit on your airplane. At least that's what we thought...

I will probably take some hits on this, but I gotta say I am really getting sick and tired of all this "Let's Roll" shit. I noticed the FT bird has the USAF-approved sticker of it behind the teeth. Maybe it's because Beamer's wife tried to trademark that sying after 9/11, or maybe I feel it is just more BS government propaganda (anyone out there old enough to remember "<b>W</b>hip <b>I</b>nflation <b>N</b>" or WIN buttons from then Chairman of President Ford’s Council of Economic Advisors Alan Greenspan? It may be a joke today, but the Ford Administration was serious when it made thousands of “WIN” buttons and passed them out to fight "Mr. Inflation." Needless to say, the buttons didn’t work.). I would have preferred "Bomb The Shit Out Of Them" or 'First Iraq, Then Chirac"...something more in tune with how we really feel, but this is all so Madison Avenue (cue Jessica Lynch) that it makes me want to puke.

And kudos to all you who advocate unity amongst the Hawg community, God knows how soon it will be before some other beltway brainiac comes up with a brilliant solution for CAS such as the A-16! Isn't there already a F/A-22 lined up? Here we go (again)...

Cheers! Maj M2

LIKE THE HOG'S TEETH OVER THE TIGER TEETH OK,

BUT AS FAR AS THE REMARK ABOUT "PAINT FUNNY SH$$ ON YOUR AIRPLANE"

YOU KNOW YOUR THE FIRST PERSON I EVER HEARD THAT WAS IN THE 81ST CALL THE TEETH "FUNNY SH$$ "
AND AS FAR AS US "FUNNY SH$$" FACED HOG WING WE WERE TASKED TOO,NORTHERN GERMANY IN CASE THE "SUPERBOWL" STARTED .
AND REALLY I HAVE MY DOUBTS YOU EVER WERE IN THE 81ST OR EVEN IN THE USAF.
AND IF YOU ARE A "OLD TIMER" YOU SURE IN THE HELL KNOW WHAT THE TEETH REPRESENT.
SO YOU CAN LIKE OR DISLIKE THE TEETH YOUR CHOICE

The truth as you see it (I guess) and if you are an 'old timer" with views like that I'm glad you are an old timer and not one of us today. I'm also pretty sure when you use the word "we" you were talking about you and that mouse in your pocket because, I don't think you speak for all the X-members of the 81st.

You truned a thread about Hog faces into a "my picker is bigger that your picker" thread.... you prove everything was not better "in the old days".

I doubt the Japs thought those teeth were all that funny over "the hump".

Max, do not instigate the Hoglets as i am quite fond of them- making me overzealously protective.

Plenty of people have entered the board with a splash(i sure did), but i think you might want to chill...at least until you get to know these FINE folks.

BTW, i like the "Let's roll" motto just fine. Why? Cause it was uttered by a national hero just before he and a host of other national heroes went to their deaths in the opening counter-attack to the war on terror(such as it is).

I agree Sniper about the motto but while each unit is authorized to put it on one airplane, some units like mine put it on all the jets. Thats a bit of an overkill.
