I am working on a t-shirt for the 30th Anniversary of the Hog / Hawgsmoke 2006. I wanted to list all of the places that the Hogs were based in peacetime and the conflicts they fought in. Here is my list, if I missed any, I am sure that I will hear about it quickly. (In no particular order.... although, if someone with more historical knowledge than I would like to put them in chronological order, I'll give them a free t-shirt.)

RAF Bentwaters
RAF Alconbury
Spangdahlem
Moody
McChord
DM
Pope
Eielson
Osan
Bradley
Barnes
Alex
Baltimore
Battle Creek
Whiteman
New Orleans
Nellis

Desert Shield
Desert Storm
Bosnia
Kosovo
Northern Watch
Southern Watch
Enduring Freedom
Iraqi Freedom

Thanks.

Long time no see, How have you been?

There was also Hog participation in Operation Urgent Fury, the 1983 invasion of Grenada. At least one 4-ship flew a mission, but didn't get to employ.

Don't forget the six FOLs in Germany, as well as RAF Woodbridge.
Sembach
Norvenich
Alhorn
Leipheim
Wiesbaden
Jever

Also, had great A-10 units at Madision WI and Syracuse NY a while back. Richards-Gebauer (in KC) had Hogs before they moved to Whiteman.

Syracuse lost all of the hawgs before WWGulf1, My best Friend was in the infamous "Area weapon 30mm Pod experiment"..lasted two weeks and shook the plane apart, Once they pulled the trigger it was out of alighnment and the impact was worse than the spread of a CBU!

Carl,

Blue section went to Honduras,Black went to Turkey we went to Germany (Checker Flag Locations)
Grenada they sent 12 RED 76th Jets and were sent to PR,and it went so fast they only turned 2 missions with 4 jets Thats what I've been told by the Crewdawgs that went.
If Spud was here he'd know maybe even Rayboy, I'll have to find "Steff" he went on the mission.

I just remember that "KISS ASS" TDY to Aurba where they sat on the beach the whole time because the planes got socked in stuck in PR,
and the folks on Aruba hung out at the Resort and the beach for I think 7 days. When the Jets did get there they basically turned around and went back home.

<img src=newicons/anim_cussing.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=newicons/anim_cussing.gif border=0 align=middle> That was one of those TDY'S ,and folks here know what I mean.

I just got to EAFB , I hadnt earned a right to go and was cool with that ,but there were some
Pretty PISSED-OFF Crewdawgs When their jet went but they didnt get to go.<img src=newicons/pain10.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=newicons/madani.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=newicons/anim_cussing.gif border=0 align=middle>

I remember that the 76th would go over to LECK AB Germany as our FOL somewhere up near DENMARK.
And i think that Black had jets there when we went over to the gulf.

I also had been told that one section had sent jets down to Trinadad For the Granada thing
The only jets that droped weapons were navy A-7s (CBUs i think)

Carl,

Leck AB was real close to the North Sea and Demark was right there, because we went to LegoLand <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=newicons/anim_bannana.gif border=0 align=middle>

Interesting Info on Leck AB Germany, they had RECKY-4'S at the time but during WW2 Leck AB was the home of the ME-262 Jet fighter squadron plus V-1 site(Buzz Bombs)
I still have patches and Stein from that Unit.

Hell,

A-10 even used the German Autobahn A29 during DOBAS-84. In Germany during the Cold War certain parts of the highways were prepaired to be used as reserve air strips. 81TFW from Bentwaters took the opportunity to use one during DOBAS-84 (Deployment Operation Bases - Activation and Support)which was a rare moment to test them as normally all Autobahns are used by cars but A29 was just completed so they got a chance to test it before the cars took it in possesion.

Four A-10's used it that day coming in for fuel and Mavericks being loaded as well.

I still have a magazine from that EX showing a couple of HOG shots on the scene. Can scan it if you like.
