Well, I finally got here. ESTA was a giant cluster, and of course the computers on the AF compound have filters so I can't access this forum from work or the morale tent. Luckily, I have managed to locate internet access on the Army side of the base. I can't even describe how much this place has changed since I was here in 2002. I will try and post some pictures as I get a chance, but this place is very crowded 24/7, and the internet speed is pretty slow too. I'll post again when I can, the time for my turn on the computor is up. They say that the only two things certain in life are death and taxes. I prefer them in that order. |

Dice: We're talking about living in tents, eating MRS, 12hr shifts, poor supply lines, limited personnel, high ops tempo, porta potties............ I have to agree with you I AM going to miss it… Those "hell hole" TDY's, are some of my fondest memories. Jaber, before they turned it into a "Real" Air Force Base and Bagram. IMHO, that's one of the things that sets the A-10 community above their Pointy Nose cousins, the ability to survive and succesfully operate out of an unimproved location. Jack, keep em flyin. stay safe, and since I can't be there, the first round in Sig will be on ME! capche-capche da - we go forward together Faugh ah Ballaugh -Clear The Way- |

Hey Jack, You just yell if we can help. I have to agree, those SHIT-HOLES were some of the best TDY's ,not so much for comfort, the job,the enviroment but for working with friends who will still be today "Family" and you wouldnt of made it without their help and at times your help.. OK, pics: This is EOR, where the A-10s are parked now. We get a ride out there in the expiditors truck and dont leave until it's time to go home. he was support in one tent and weapons picks up the food and brings it to the other where we eat. There are alos porta-johns out here. the only time you might have to leave this area is to order parts. The control tower and smoke pit. All the tents are gone, now it is these wooded b-huts. All the dust is gone too. Now it is gravel and a little pavement. OK, we got a little bored here. Me and another crew cheif covered this truck in reflective tape. both sides, the hood, the tailgate, the wheels...everything. The next day the chief made us take it off though. It took about half the paint of with it. HELL YEAH. 250 rds and 2 rockets. Do I really need to say any more? I have alot more pictures I've taken, but it will take me a while to hook my stuff up to the computors and shrink them, and upload them, and post here. More to come..... They say that the only two things certain in life are death and taxes. I prefer them in that order. |

Wow! Big changes since I was there in 2003-2004. I never got any pics from my old buddies at DM since you guys just replaced them. Oh well. They still got you guys living in the B-huts near the first clamshell? You might be a "Bulldog" if: You bend over and grab your ankles when you hear: "EXERCISE, EXERCISE, EXERCISE!" |

Wow, pavement! No more twisted ankles on those @#$% fist-sized rocks! Is the deck and BBQ area still on the south side of the tower? The Second Amendment: America's original homeland security. Ya just can’t take life too seriously, because you aren’t going to get out of it alive anyway. |

jackb ...thanks for posting the pictures, loved the truck... LOL.... hope the time there goes fast. I used to think that TDY's sucked when I was in the AF back in the 60's. Come to think of it guess I only went on one to Japan ,and I didn't enjoy it. My son is there with ya and flys the A-10. nickname starts with the same letter as the state he is from. We now live in a different state. His name is short and it's from a famous movie. Let me know if you figure it out, didn't think I should use it here. We are so pround of you guys. GOd bless you, Proud papa Yesterday was to learn and tomorrow will be the consequence of what I can do today. |

Coach, That is not the pilots alert truck. While we were still doing the turnover with DM, the alert jets were parked on Alpha taxiway, so we used this small Ranger. Now that they are gone, the alert jets are the first ones next to the tents. I know what you are talkign about though, and will post a picture. 30 mike mike, the only pavement on the AF compound in that stip directly in front of the tower. The rest is gravel and dirt. No more 6 inches of fine dust that gets into everything like in 2002. Weasel, We are all pretty spread out. They have all the b-buts mixed between shfts and flights. I am in 58, one over from the basketball court behind the shower trailer. They say that the only two things certain in life are death and taxes. I prefer them in that order. |
