George Bush was here the other day. Didn't even know it was happening until Air Force One was right in front of me. He was on the ground less than 4 hours. We saw the plane taxi up, the doors open, he walked out, waved, and got in a bunch of helicoptors and took off. Came back a few hours later and split. Security was nuts.

WOOOOOOOW!!!!!! Great pics. What a door art. And what about security, all over the place were soldiers! Security enough I think.

Keep going on take care of yourself and eachother and tell everybody there that they have support.

I'm disappointed.

That's how you can lose door art. The jet is owned and operated by a company that professes to certain ideals, among them being equal treatment of women. The Hog is a symbol of national will, not some high schooler country bumpkin's pickup truck. It's not your jet!

Then I guess the AF needs to quite selling the idea of "pride in ownership" to crew chiefs?

Wow coach. CC's have been calling them "their" jets since there was jets, and then before that.

I have to Agree with M&M and Fender,
I was a DCC on 2 Airframes and I had to sign a paper to be responsible for equipment that belonged to that Jet and it was put into the Jacket File, and From the DCM down they told me "It was my Jet" and when they put out Top Flyer of the month they listed the Tail Number and DCC/ACC and "Your JET is top flyer and your award a 3 day pass."

Coach, I respect you very much,You know that, but its is said its the CrewChiefs jet.I'm not saying that he can paint it "RED" and sell it on eBay but Its his responsiblity to keep that Jet in the Air,go to Phase with it,Records reviews, answer questions about it,MSET Quiz's the DCC on Their Jet etc......

So thats just a few of the reason why we said "Their our Jets"

Jackb,
paint her red put wings on her and a Halo and tell anyone who ask,its in rememberance of "Brig Gen Scott" who died a few days ago.
That should

I agree with Fender, M&M, and Goose, Jack is just showing the pride he has in his aircraft, something not every CC has today. Also I believe that is not a "pole dancer" but the "Hell's Angel" of the famed 23rd FW, 76FS....showing Jack does "get it". He not only is proud of his jet he knows the history of the airframe he works, something even rairer in todays Air Force. A good Crew Chief can bend wrenches, a better CC can bend wrenches and knows the background of the aircraft he works and the link he has with the A-10 community as a whole, a <b>great</b> Crew Chief, like Jack, has both these quilities.

Did we all miss the little tid-bit of info buired in jack's post, he sewed on SSGT? Jack congrads on sewing-on your stripe, I'm sure you have worked hard and deserve it! let me, as an old SNCO, welcome you to the NCO ranks!! <img src=newicons/smiley_salute.gif border=0 align=middle>

I painted that on my jet almost two weeks ago. I wanted to post it immidiately, but decided to wait a bit to see if it would get shot down. I did it working on the theory "It's easier to ask for forgiveness than beg for permission". Nothing has been said about it (which surprised me a bit, in all honesty), and everyone who's seen it has commented how great it looks.

Coach, your comments surprised me. I really don't know what to say. Everyone else seems to have beat me to it, but she is my jet- I just let the plots fly her. It's all part of pride in ownership, the same reason I got the door painted and keep her maintained in good shape. I also had the bigger picture of door art/decorating the jet in mind when I did this. I looked up if there was anything regs prohibiting this, and couldnt find one. I proceeded knowing if there was one, I was sure that someone would be more than happy to present it to me to make me remove it.

Dice, I must have missed the little tid-bit of info in my post too. Thanks for the congratulations, but I sewed on Staff when I was in Korea (June 04).

HARUMP!! Billy, I was just thinking of call you on the land line before I got on the board.

Coach, I just wanted you to know that my posting wasnt a "SLAM' and I hope you didnt take it that way, Dice summed it up pretty good and Mudd's reply was a good addition."It could ended-up "Carpet time",but Hell If you dont get your ASS CHEWED at least once a week, your not doing anything.

Do CrewChiefs take offense when someone says "Its not your Jet"
YOU BETCHA! Hell ask "ROOT" I got mad if someone put dirty hand prints on my Teeth or put a "Scratch in my paint in during IFR"<img src=newicons/anim_cussing.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=newicons/anim_furious.gif border=0 align=middle>

To be IMHO, the USAF lost alot of what Jackb has for his plane and other CrewChiefs here ,YES BILLY you got it too! The old "MY JET IS BETTER THAN YOUR JET" pride there once was.
You had your Jet and that was it everyday ,you worked your jet with your ACC and had turn over on the line etc.....
You knew the Pilots by name ,they knew yours and when you went TDY we got to together had Cook-outs and or Hit the Bars together.
That was some of the best times. Duty time was Professional, off-duty was Fun time.
But I hear that dont float anymore and thats ashame, and being overworked, TDY's overload, shortage of folks etc..... takes it toll so for any CrewChief or anyone that Humps the line that takes that extra pride is the exception instead of the "Norm" like before.
They just called you "ATE-UP" back then and Mack will tell you I was
"HARDCORE ATE-UP" but I burned-out after leaving the Hog and then Driving the Truck and running a shift on Trash Haulers .I always told myself "You Burn-out you Get-out" that was told to me by an Old CrewChief when I was a 1 striper.
",You start looking at this as just a Job, not Pride in what you do,Then get-out.

So I'm sure its not too differant from how Pilots feel about flying,

Just differant ways of showing "Pride in what you do"

Goose

I can understand Coach's view point on this subject. And despite the fact that Crew Chiefs are told from day one that “it’s your jet” We all understand that what it really means is we’re responsible for the aircraft. If anything happens to it they are coming to us and we better have the answers. Yes we clean it, maintain it and spend countless hours working on it and take pride in it. However, we do not “OWN” it! It belongs to (and represents) the United States Government and what is done to it is governed by regulations.

Jack - I personally see no harm in what you have done, as long as it’s within the limits of the regulations. However, keep in mind since it “could” be considered offensive by someone who doesn’t understand the history behind it, you may be setting yourself up for trouble which is what I think Coach was referring too. Best case scenario, you’re told to remove it. Worst case scenario, you get in trouble and the Commander tells everyone to remove ALL art work. That’s how it happens, I know its BS but we live in a politically correct society which is why we don’t have the art work of days gone by. So use your best judgment, do what you think is right and always ALWAYS make sure to CYA.

capche-capche da - we go forward together

Well crap, belated 04 congrads then! As you may know I've done a <i>little</i> research on this subject and what you've done falls under the heading of nose art.

PACAFI 21-105 states...

<i>3.16.8. Nose Art.
3.16.8.1. For the purpose of clarification, “nose art” will be the term used to identify specialized artwork applied to the forward area of the aircraft. Nose art is not authorized on PACAF aircraft unless directed by MAJCOM or higher authority.</i>

So depending on how you leadership reads the "Forward area of the aircraft" this can fall into nose art and not be authorized. Of course PACAF has never considered the ladder door as part of the forward area of the aircraft so I don't see how they would view the inside of the gear door any different.

Your in a AOR,supporting Combat Operations, drawing Hostile pay or whatever they call it.
Your way from Home,Family etc.... The Rules get "Bent" alittle prime example.
Look at the Beach's HOG's in GW1. You think the Command came down and said" We want Art on the Noses of the Jets" no they didnt ,and every Aircraft from A-10'S to KC-10'S had it came from someones Pride and "Tradition" and you ended-up with some great Art Work, The Cajuns had the CrawDaddy put on there's
We put the "Hell's Angel" on ours for History of the unit.
Gen Horner flew all over the AOR in a F-16 with Full back ART WORK,The one with the Hawk breaking thru the stain Glass <img src=newicons/anim_shock.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=icon_smile_approve.gif border=0 align=middle>
and Who could forget "Its Hammer Time" The Lady on the 2000LB on Col
"D"''s Jet Commander of Shaw.
I had him on my jet for 4 months and I still cant spell his name.

Its a Tradition which like Dice has said "Comes and Goes and Back again" Its History and when they go home they'll take it off like
Kill Markings <img src=newicons/anim_cussing.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=newicons/madani.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=newicons/anim_furious.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=newicons/anim_bs.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=icon_smile_sad.gif border=0 align=middle>because we dont want to "Rub it in their Face" <img src=newicons/anim_bs.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=newicons/spit.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=newicons/anim_cussing.gif border=0 align=middle>

So Reg's or not its going to happen, but when they get home, its removed and just waiting for the next time they go.
Its a Morale Builder ,

LilHitler, I explained up above that "Owning doesnt mean he can paint it Red and sell it on eBay" Its just like Owning your Home, if it aint paid-off you "Techincally Dont own your home, the bank does"
But your considered the Owner because your responsable for it and take care of it The paperwork etc... say's your the Owner, but the Bank is in truth.
Same thig with your Jet.

This is one of those "Mexican Stand-off Things" nobody is right or wrong.
Plus DOORART isnt removed 90% of the time due too "Offensive Material" its removed because the Squadron changed commanders, and they wanted it gone, not all Jets had it, paint was getting bad or someone didnt want to pitch in for a Paint job and said "Why dont we just paint then all 1 color and stick a patch on it"? That is the REAL REASON most of the time.So you could put the USAF LOGO on it and you could be told to Remove it.

Goose

Ahh, more kinder gentler Air Force BS!!! I am getting so fed up with that crap. When the leadership moved the AF away from being part of the military and started running it like a fortune 500 company, everything went down the tubes.

Oh, we can't hurt the muslim's feelings, take that picture of your jet dropping a bomb on Osama off your door.

Oh no!! A woman might see that replica of a WW2 bomber nose art on your jet. MEO will have a field day with you if you don't take that off! No one cares if this unit had ties to the unit you got that picture from.

That kind of crap above pisses me right off. Are we in the military or what? They want to treat us like we are the Army Air Corps again, but we still have to play "paddy cake" to the PC whiners.

Jackb,
What did old boy say to you in the first picture? Looks like he was going to thump your skull!

I thought the days of "paint - no paint" ended when General Creech left? lol

Sure we all remember the "Creech Brown" they called it.
I saw him at Nellis a few years back........seems I remember hearing of his passing while I was still living in Las Vegas. He lived in Henderson.
Think it was 2003....not sure.
