I'm approaching 18 and have always wanted to serve my country as an A-10
pilot. I got in touch with a recruiter, but she hung up when she found out I wasn't 18.

So what do you have to do to become a pilot? (other then enlist of course)

Your first step in becoming a Air Force Pilot (of any airframe) will be to get a college degree. Without that you'll be stuck pounding the pavement.

There really should be a sticky for this subject

You were helped you were told to go to college hint get good grades. That is the foundation you need to start with. It is not post a few questions and have people hold your hand step by step. No college no fly. Then when you get into the airforce flight training you are not guarenteed the hog. So you better really love flying or what ever uncle sam tells you to do above all else no one guarentees you get the hog.

In college, if you are considering a career in military aviation, what should your concentration/major be?

Cause it seems the military leadership has nothing better to do than to annoy the shit out of ya.

It doesn't matter. I was a business major. If you want to have a chance at test pilot school or the astronaut board you'll need a technical degree.

But you can sit back ,take a nap, ,<img src=newicons/anim_shock.gif border=0 align=middle> I forgot I was talking from a CrewChiefs point of view <img src=newicons/anim_lol.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=newicons/anim_lol.gif border=0 align=middle>

Ok I'm on track again.

I guess folks think there's a "Golden Ticket" in a Candy Bar that gets you straight into Flight School and Flying Jets.

Its a "Pick of the Straw" even after you go to School they can still reject you due to, health, numbers etc......
You can even join-up at 18 enlisted work Maintance,go to school and later get a Degree and Apply, We had an Ex-ECM troop that was a pilot.
So like it or not Everyone gave you the only answer you can get
"Get a Degree and Apply" or Enlist and get a Degree and "Apply"

Its not a sure thing on any level, you can even wash-out of Training.
So just try and follow your "Dream" but dont forget about the "RealWorld"
