Does anyone have the test photo of the GAU-8/A, the one where the gun is on a stand and the barrels are red hot?

Dice I hoping you would be the one that had the photo. We used to have it in the shop when I was at Bentwaters or maybe MB. The stand is yellow, the gun had just fired a large amount of ammo. There were sensors on the barrels and they were smoking red hot. I really wish someone could come up with it.

Sorry Fender the only test-stand photo that would be close is this one which I'm sure you've seen...

Long time lurker here, I know the picture. If anybody has a contact at Bradley get them to the gun shop, it's on the desk in the maintenance bay. Dice maybe Fred can help you out.

Fender, is this the picture you wanted? If you need a larger, higher rez copy, just let me know. You can think "Fred" for the shot, I can't post his name but he's, as Boodah stated, with Bradley ANG.

Also thanks for the tip Boodah, I would have had no idea where to look.

Great shot! One for my collection to be sure.

I'll also admit to an obvious sienor moment here. I've not worked on the A-10 since 1980, and since then spent the rest of my career as a Small Arms Instructor. What the hell is "spm"? I know that RPM is Rounds Per Minute, but SPM?

I also thought the GAU-8 had a much higher rate of fire. I'd always been told that it was 4K and 6K, or is my old decrepid mind screwing with me again.

Try not to laugh to much at the old geezer, remember, you'll be here your self some day.

Thanks for understanding

Yep, kind of figured is was something like that. Thanks Fender.

I could have sworn it fired faster than that. I know that about the time I left the field, that we'd R&R'd all the Hyd motors to reduce the rate of fire, and they also switched out the drums for smaller capacity ones. Never made much since to me, I always figured the more ammo you carried, the better off you were.

Well, it's hell getting old and befuddled.<img src=newicons/Whatever_anim.gif border=0 align=middle>

Technically it wasn't the drum that was switched out it was the helix, some people used to call it the inner drum. Trouble was the original helix was somewhat weak and when they modified it to be stronger some storage was lost in the process. The new (then) helix was more durable and increased reliability.

Thanks Fender. I probably knew that at the time. Too many M-60 fumes over the years I guess.<img src=icon_smile_tongue.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=newicons/anim_lol.gif border=0 align=middle>
