L/C (Ret.) Walker Bowman's Memorial service was today at the Dove Chapel on base at Davis-Monthan. Over 300 people showed for the service complete with a 358th Lobos Missing Man formation afterwards. (He put a Raytheon Velocity into Dragoon Mountains a week ago). I served with "Sony" at RAF Woodbridge in the early 90s along with a lot of the guys who turned out for his service. Sony was a striaghtshooter, devoted pilot and husband, and a great dad. As a Flight Commander, he knew the ropes (thanks to his ATC time) and could lead men with the best of them. He will be truly missed. The obituary is listed in the AZ Daily Star website in the Obituary section www.azstarnet.com He will be missed.

What is known about this accident?

It's sad how many guys end up getting killed in civilian light aircraft accidents after surviving a career in fighters.

Unfortunately, we also lost Scott Crossfield, the first man to fly the X-15 rocket-powered jet and made aeronautical history in 1953 by becoming the first pilot to fly faster than Mach 2, two days ago in an aviation accident. His Cessna 210 was found in the mountains in northern Georgia after he went missing from Prattville, Alabama, to Manassas, Virginia. His body was found in the wreckage, he was the only person aboard. Crossfield was 84.
