Can any of you maintainers tell your experiences with TAS? Good/Bad?
Do you TAS your PPE gear?
Thanks

DB,

What is TAS Bro? I'm guessing PPE is still Personal Protection Gear?

Tool Accountability System. It is the way we track tools now Goose. No more chits. Each item has it's own barcode and is logged in and out with a scan gun.

DB it really doesn't matter if we like it or have issues with it, 21-101 says we will use it. Now 21-101 also says if you have PPE next to a hazard, examples are vat or grinder, you don't have to put that into TAS.

In AFRC/AMC they want us to TAS our relective belt, headsets and ear defenders and long term issue them out to the technicians. Each with their own unique EID. I've got 337 personnel loaded in our database.
The daily turn over report is going to be 100 pages long with 99 pages of useless info.

Was just wondering if anyone used the TAS program. I've found to be another crappy program the A.F. bought. It's not user friendly and I've seen beta versions of programs the are less glitchey than this.
cheers

D.B. it makes no sense to me for them to do it that way. Our local sup1 allows us to us to use First Initial, Last Name and Last 4 as an ID for all issued PPE. LSET was just here last week and they found no problem with it. You can do it if it is written as a Sup to 21-101.

We got alot of PPE issued once. We got EPs, and had them etched with the laser etcher back in support, reflective belts the same. I can't imagine having to mess with TAS, now that I remember what the heck it is. They had some stuff that was behind the counter, in case you forgot yours or some such, and we used employee numbers.

I never worked support, always on the recieving end. Never had trouble from it that I didn't deserve.

Ignorance may be bliss, but it sure ain't fun!

Man,

I'm glad I'm out of that stuff! Geezzz Whizzzz, I used the same EP's I had rec'vd at Yokota in 83 and still have them today.
I used them basically my whole time , Scott AFB you checked them out everyday with your Reflective belt.
I used my old Reflective belt until the "DISCO" ones came out and they gave us differant colors based on our job in the 76th.
But my old OD field Jacket at Yokota had to have the "OLD REFLECTIVE"
STRIPS" sewn on them .
Even though the USAF had did away with that most every place else at Yokota we had 2 accidents and 1 death due to your jacket bunching up around your Belt.

Well that system might not be too bad, we had to fill out those "Slips" everyday for the Toolbox,ladder,Com-Cord,headset and Launch Checklist.
They finally assigned Toolboxs to Aircraft so all you did was put down your Tailnumber and sign and all the stuff came with it plus they even put a few Checklist in your box.
That made it quick.
I cant see having to sign out your PPE everyday that seems pretty
Stupid its like a "Part of your Uniform"

But hey, things change I was in the very "FIRST CAMS" class at EAFB,
and never used it after that.<img src=newicons/anim_lol.gif border=0 align=middle>

I've always been on the recieving end of support, but I'm not a big fan of TAS. If the guy behind the counter fat-fingers something, or puts the wrong man #, then guess who gets the hard time? Not him. I preferred it better when we used 1297's. Sometimes I'm getting ready to go home and I check my #, the tell me 'Oh no, you still have all this crap out', crap that I've never even seen. But the computor says I signed it out, so it must be right and I must be crazy.

They say that the only two things certain in life are death and taxes. I prefer them in that order.
