The auctioneer repeats the statement that the rounds were fired at 70 rounds per second?

Forgive my memory on this one as I havent worked a Hawg since 1986, but I do believe she fires just a little faster than that? Right?

Or maybe I am thinking in rounds per minute and not second?

I learned 72 rounds per second.

I have a set of these same shotglasses, five to include one that has the 81 TFW crest etched on it. They came in a nice wooden box with a 81 TFW patch on top.

These look well worth the price.

Cheers! M2

Well, considering the entire drum empties in about 15 seconds....

The cyclic has been fixed at 3900rpm hasn't it?

That'd be 65rps.

Drum holds 1,174 +/- 5 rounds, 4,200 PRM at full speed (which can take a second or so to spin up to) you do the math. <img src=icon_smile_approve.gif border=0 align=middle>

I'm just too lazy so I'll ask the question,

Wasnt there 2 cycles you could choose for the rate of fire?I just remember I think that one was safety wired so you couldnt use the other.
Its been awhile.

Goose,
You are correct. There used to be two rates, but that got changed a while back, not sure when, but the switch remained. Hi rate is the only option on the A-model. There is no gun rate switch on a C-model.

The current gun rate of fire is 3900 RPM +300/-600, depending on what other stress is on the hydraulic system. The first second fires 55 rounds due to the time to spin up to full speed.

We used to be able to select low rate (2100 RPM) or High rate (4200 RPM) but low rate was removed in the late '80s with the addition of the "Superkit" gun mod. It has a TCTO number but I can't recall it. It was associated with the installation of the Battelle Device gun gas diverter. Once that was installed, the low rate produced harmonics and torque stress that caused issues with the gun mounts in the fuselage, so the low rate option was removed.

The Battelle Device was subsequently removed, but the low rate option was never restored. The Superkit mod also provided the barrel cooling function that rotates the barrels every 30-60 seconds as long as the master arm is armed.

I thought there was a LOW &HIGH rate switch, because you checked on the PRE-FLIGHT the safety wire was not broken, like the engine "Over ride switches" had to be wired.

I only saw 2 jets with the "Salad Chopper" on them, but then again like Coach said they were there and then they weren't that fast.
