I was reading in an old magazine/book. It was going about the A-10 and history. The magazine was \"World Airpower Journal, Volume 16 Spring 1994\".
This is the rumour what never happend in history:

\"In June 1993 it was announced that 50 ex-USAF A-10As would be provided by the Turkish Air Force. As of this writing, no information as to wich aircraft will be transferred was available, but it is rumoured that they will based at Eskisehir.\"

Maybe somebody knows more about this story. Was this just a rumour or was it real and political grounded or other reasons that this never made a part of the Warthog history?

Two countries expressed interest in the A-10 when it looked like surplus airframes would be available...Turkey and Thailand. For some reason, the AF did not want to let them have the jets. Rumor was that we didn't want the gun getting out of our hands. The issue just sort of faded away.

KABUL, Afghanistan — As the United States accelerates its training of Afghanistan’s fledgling army, the nation’s defense minister has revealed a list of high-tech weaponry he says his nation needs to defend itself.
Defense Minister Rahim Wardak told The Associated Press his requests include Apache helicopter gunships and A-10 ground attack planes, which the more than 1,000 American trainers embedded with the new Afghan army can currently call in from U.S. bases in an emergency.

Anyone else see a problem with this? I mean, other than the fact that Afghanastan has no money and no capability to fly, repair or generally maintain ANYTHING that leaves the ground.

Old Chief, maybe it is to Afghanistan, but there is nothing \"high tech\" as you also quoted about the A-10. Ha ha. Our Sq/CC changed our mission statement, which used to read \"modern attack professionals\", to now only read \"attack professionals\". Maybe once we get the A-10C he'll reconsider the \"modern\" portion, although that is still debatable. It'd be a huge step up for Afghanistan though.
