By any chance does anyone know where Hawgsmoke 2008 is going to be held?

Since Whiteman won the event, they should be hosting it. That's the last I heard.

Will it be Whiteman itself or a nearby airstrip ?

Not sure if the USAF will let all those Hogs near their other Whiteman precious B-2 toys. We don't want to run them into a most ugly competition....

Past Hawgsmoke 2006 was at Davis Monthan because the 2004 competiton could not generate a winner due to weather trouble.
DM was choosen as it was some 30 years ago the first operational A-10 touched runway overthere.

All other Hawgsmoke exercises were held outside regular USAF bases.

There must be something about those Hogdrivers....

What sort of time frame is Hawgsmoke? Tentative dates maybe?

I was just checking Mapquest and I figure its about a 400 mile drive for me. Thats not too terribly bad I dont guess.

Being that I am only a vet and not a retired vet, would that make a difference in getting around the venue at all?

Maybe better with a Retired Vet I would imagine, easier getting on base and all.
Maybe I can save my pennies and get a kitchen pass....swing by and pick up Ole Mr Goose and head off to Knobnoster!

Goose how far from me are you again? I remember you mentioning something about the beer tent at Ashkum. I'm only like 20 miles or so from Ashkum.
Let me know here or toss a private note this way. Now that I am working what they call a 2-2-3 schedule I got some time. I have a 3 day weekend every other weekend. Maybe when it gets a little warmer we can hook up on a Saturday or Sunday. I can run down your way and make a day of it!

You'll have to promise one thing before the wife would let me go see you though.......we wont be starting any fires or playing with any sort of explosive devices!

If only.... I have a few thousand miles to travel to get there. Small price to pay I guess!!

Usually they will have a Open Day for the Public to view the Jets, and learn about the aircrafts mission, SOmetimes that will coincide-utilize with a Local Civil Airport for this, so that it dont interfer with other Tenet Units on the base conductiong their operations.




Provided the B-2 Will even live up to a 1/16th of its proposed fatigue life...and it is not looking good it will be in service much longer..



That would Be Hogwash 2004, and I still Crack up the Host Unit and "Cough Cough" Marlin was in the first of the few jets to get over the target before they competition was shafted with a weather day!

I think their is allot more to the reasons to Use DM, The West Ranges enjoy particularly favorable weather all year long, the emphasis in a Desert Tactical Enviroment, due to current Deployments, and that The Host Unit also has a Flight Training Squadron. It is a Good Bang for the Buck that benefits DM, and the A10 Community to talk shop, Apply Tactical Airpower, and to pass off those Lessons learned and developed to the new breed..



True, 20 Years ago it was a differnt theater, (COLD WAR) and like all competitions. They are unique to the Global situation. They also serve as a Notification to our Foe's that we are prepared to operate and Win in their Enviroment.

LOL I was there last Spring and i think we got pretty lucky as the Wednesday before Hawgsmoke started, it was completely overcasted and raining but luckely it cleared in time.

No doubt the weathergods needed to make up for the rainfestival back in 2004.
