On May 4th I visit Spangdahlem. It was a very good trip. We went their with a group of 40 people and a pilot of the 22nd Squadron (F-16) lead us around. Also a Warthogpilot told us things about the plane. The best ever for me was sitting in the green(!) A-10 and in the simulator. I feel like a little child in a shop full of toys.
Also there were 2 Dutch Chinooks and 4 C-17's.

News from Spangdahlem, what I heard after questions from me.
The A-10's get their updates in the USA.
Dice-man, I asked also for doorarts. They have 2 doorarts. A young pilot, without a own plane) told me that. He told also that they got in the future hopely more doorarts. We saw the new planes standing in a shelter.

Weird. I opened it right now. Anyone else having trouble ?

Might be AOL though. For some reason I couldn't send e-mail to my buddies with AOL accounts last year. At a certain moment it stopped and it took some 2 months before my server or theirs fixed it.

Never heard what caused the problem back than but it really was

The Warthogs goes in June and July to Lakenheath. F-16's goes to another base. I asked it last Friday. The runway is gonna be fixed. I visit the base last year on the Open House and in 2004 with the same base-tour. It was a totally different tour, because the base is growing. This time their terminal for the cargoplanes (and soldiers for deployment, we saw them) was new, in 2004 was it under construction. Even the painter (a nice blond lady) was still busy. Also the firedepartment under the mainbuilding get a bigger place.
Off topic: They got very nice weathergirls :D Great pizza and Gatorade.

The Pantherheads are a few years not anymore on the planes. They also not coming back or the new policy (same as the positive for doorarts) will them back again on the plane.

No idea why it had the teeth and if the serial matches but the real 85-1551 had teeth as well.

Hitler, that dates back to when Spang flew the F-4G Wild Weasel which carried the shark teeth, Clark AB F-4Gs also flew with the shark teeth. I use to know the whole story but only remember peices of it now. If I remember right Spangs Wild Weasels, like Clarks 3rd FTW, were off-shoots of the Flying Tigers so fly with the teeth. The F-16s flew with the teeth during the transision from the F-4 to the F-16 but faded from use soon after the change over was complete.

They have more planes/Gate guards. F-105 with Vietnam war markers under the cockpit, F-15 and a F-4. All of them has SP on the tail.

A quick note on the Panther heads. While I was stationed there, as wing and group supervisions were beginning to prep for a UCI, someone got in the regs regarding aircraft markings a realized a few things. We had no wavier on file for \"additional\" markings. That was when we had to remove door art (although that process was \"milked\" but everyone), remove the \"third wipe\" crew cheifs name off of the forward NLG door, and start removing cowls to go to paintbar to remove the panther heads. I guess at the time it was easier to have us do all of that rather than put in a waiver. Also, at that point, it was discovered that the 81st's markings were historically black on gold, not yellow on black. That explains the rather hideous tail markings they now carry.

Few more pictures on this Dutch forum. Sorry that everything is written in Dutch, but pictures say more than words. I am named Warthog, the picture under mine name is taken from me few years ago on Spang next to the Green A-10
