According to http://home.att.net/~jbaugher/1978.html, tail numbers 78-0551 -> 0560 were for McDonnell Douglas F-15C-23-MC Eagle, Contract cancelled.

IMO, I would not call that an A-10 themed guitar. A USAF themed guitar maybe. A-10 no way.

jackb: I believe 78-0552 (maybe it was 553) is the ground trainer at Spangdahlem.

Maybe someone over there can confirm?

You're right jackb there is no A-10 tail number 78-0552 (Raven Spangs jet is 652). Still a cool guitar...but not for the price!

If you look at Dutchy's avatar in the Dutch aviation forum he visits (link in his Spang visit thread) he is standing in front of Spangs ground trainer, with 553 painted on the nose. Is that not that aircraft's \"actual\" tail number? Isn't 652 an 82?

Raven, ROFL, man I can't see that number in Dutchy's avatar with my old eyes! I'll look through my files later to see what I can find but, after a quick look this morning the only 553 I see is a 76-0553 with is/was a ground trainer at Barksdale. Maybe my file are not complete.....BTW yes 653 is a 82 my bad.

A long time ago, in a galaxy far far away, 76-0553 was assigned to Instrument System Specialist SRA Francis W. Mallahan of Woburn, MA. The aircraft was originally assigned to the 355th AMU, of the 354th TFW. It was occasionally LOANED to a pilot.

Frankie and I spent MANY hours on it. Incidentally, it was the 100th airframe.

It then had a spell at RAF Bentwaters, with the mighty 'Skulls' before ending up at Spang.
