Just a quick post to let you know that the Bentwaters Cold War Museum is now open for business.

If any of you Hog fans are ever over here in the UK and fancy a visit to Bentwaters get in touch with the museum via www.bcwm.org.uk.

Hope to see you soon

I'm sort of surprised that there was no mention of the U.F.O. Landing?

I assume you mean on the site. Well as a museum we only promote what we can prove. The UFO thing is a whole can of worms. There is a small UFO display at the museum but this is simply copies of the newspaper articles from 83/84. Apart from that we express no opinion.

Of course if anyone has any info that they feel may sched any light on this matter or has any good Bentwaters or Woodbridge pictures or objects that they would like to share or donate to the museum then please feel free to contact us at www.bcwm.org.uk.

The truth is out there.........

83/84? I thought the sighting was in 80?
I thought this, as it was just before I got to Aviano.

The 75th was there in May/June 83 and you hardly heard anything of it

Thanx M2!

OK so it was about 2 weeks after I got to Aviano. I knew it was in the same time frame.
I remember my Grandfather, who lived in Bedford asking me about it when I was there on leave a couple times.

And I did make it a point, even though not many were mentioning it, to ask about it while TDY there in 83 and get shown the general area.

I got to Bentwaters in April 1982, and the biggest story at that time was a drug bust in the SP/fire dept shops if I recall correctly. When we pulled up to the CBPO on the bus from Mildenhall, the guy who met us was asking if any of us were cops or firemen. Apparantly a lot of people got caught \"smokin' the weed!\"

I honestly can't remember if there was still much talk about the UFO incident. It may have been mentioned but not enough to garner my interest. Heck, I was more involved with riding my motorcycle or hanging out with my British girlfriend; but I did like to sightsee so I think if I knew more about it at the time I would've gone and tracked it down. I do remember the 75 TFS TDY to the Twin Bases in '83 (I worked on Bentwaters but lived on Woodbridge), back then we thought the shark's teeth were a bit silly but that is probably because we didn't have them. I have since come to have great respect for the Flying Tigers.

I also remember the German Luftwaffe brought their F-104 Starfighters to Woodbridge when I first got there. Friggin' rockets, those jets were, and a couple of the German pilots had hair long enough to stick out from under their helmets!

Good times!

Cheers! M2

It looks like a nice museum, maybe I visit it in the future when I am in GB.

Looking forward to paying a visit, last time I was anywhere near was back in 98 when I flew over the 'twinbases', I was impressed with Woodys wide runway going back to its emergency landing field days.
On a personal note, the Hogs are the USAFE aircraft I miss the most in the UK, if only SP could make their TDY in June/July more permanent

While at Aviano I got alot of time on the 104's, both German and Italian. Thought they were actually a pretty good airframe myself.

The UFO didn't make headlines in the press in the UK unit 1983/84. Now the forestry commision have a signposted walk around the forest so people can visit the allaged sites of Dec 1980's events.

Never seen aliens, but its a lovelly piece of the country to walk my Hovawart....

(Hey MAX, I'd have made a great 104 jockey.....)
