| Post subject: | Boeing Awarded $2 Billion A-10 Wing Contract |
ST. LOUIS, June 29, 2007 -- The Boeing Company [NYSE: BA] has been awarded a U.S. Air Force contract worth up to $2 billion between 2007 and 2018 for engineering services and the manufacturing of 242 wing sets for the Air Force's A-10 fleet. \"We are pleased that the Air Force has recognized that Boeing has the skilled expertise, engineering know-how and the affordable solution to address the needs of the A-10 program,\" said Charles T. Robertson, vice president of Boeing Support Systems' Maintenance, Modifications and Upgrades division. The A-10 wing replacement program calls for the replacement wing sets to be delivered in parts and kits for easy installation. Boeing has teamed with key suppliers to meet all the requirements presented by the A-10 contract, Robertson said. He added that the Boeing solution will allow the nation's A-10 fleet to fly at least 20 more years. \"This contract extends the life of a valuable platform that supports our warfighters in accomplishing their mission to defend freedom around the globe,\" Robertson said. \"Employing our integration expertise and lean manufacturing techniques, we are well-prepared to meet the challenges presented in this contract.\" The A-10, first introduced in 1976, is a twin-engine jet aircraft designed for close-air support of ground forces. The simple, effective and survivable single-seat aircraft can be used against all ground targets, including tanks and other armored vehicles. |

I bet Lockheed Martin's bunned. I hate the way an artical like this is filled with buzz-words....\"affordable solution\"...\"warfighters\"...\"lean manufacturing techniques\". I have heard these terms so much they have lost all meaning to me. O'well, like Growler said...long live the A-10!

Here's another buzz word for you Dice..2 Billion. Let's see, that's around 8.25 Million per set..YIKES! But, I guess that's pretty cheap to keep the old girl around for another 20. Now if they can only find the $$ for new engines. OC |

20 years from now, or from 2020? And will those new wings include hardpoints for the afterburner system?

I make deliveries to one of Boeing's wing manufacturing plants almost daily. Could I be so lucky?? I know these are preliminary reports, but does anybody know where they will be making them?

Jack, Some of those \"Posters\" need some \"Edumacation\" on the HOG. \"The Hog\" preformed many different missions in DS1, Dive Bomber with MK-84's (or whatever a 2,000lb bomb is) SAM / suppression mission with F-4G's CAS SAR Tank BUSTING FAC SCUD Hunters Night time Support missions And the best of all IT SCARED THE \"SHIT OUT OF THE IRG\"!!!!!!!! And mine was sent up to Baghdad during DS1 to take out AAA sites with the 30mm on buildings around the outskirts to \"Reduce Civilian\" Killing after the F-111 Bombing. Thats when mine took a 37mm in the #! engine and kept flying with her cowl damaged and blade damage she kept on \"Killing AAA\" We had to rebuild the Cowl and drop the engine and she flew the next morning. And dont forget \"80-0186\" Col Sawyers BD from the SA2, ALL that damage and the ALCR guys from \"Mc\" had her in the air in 7 days . I would like to see what a \"F-22\" can do on that note with that kind of \"BD\" Thats not including the other Conflicts in been in and OIF and AFGANYLAND where shes \"Busting some Bad Guys\" It Preformed OUTSTANDING AND STILL IS. Oh and by the way the USAF Did want to give up the A-10 in the late 80's to have them sent to the Army, but DS1 stopped it. So you can them to come over to this thread , some of us \"Know First Hand\" what a Hog can do in Combat, Pilots and Crew Dawgs. sO SHE DESERVES EVERYTHING And the \"BUFF\" is still one of the \"Best Bombers\" Goose |

I know, I know. AR15.com has a GREAT AK-47 and Curio and Relics forum, but the rest, including the general chat section I'm not a big fan of. That was one of the first times I've ever read or posted in that section. I felt obligated to share some schooling with some of those clowns a little bit. I saw the word A-10 in the active topics and was like a moth to a bright flame. |

Your Right Dice and Jack, you see \"A-10\" it \"DRAWS YOU IN TO THE LIGHT\" But come on, the Hog couldn't ever survive against a \"Real enemy's defense system\" What was Iraq in 90-91? Goose |

ROFL, yea Goose in every conflict from 91 on there has been a \"reason\" the A-10 preformed so well and didn't get shot down by SAMs/MANPADS but, wait until next time and you'll see they can't survive over the \"modern battlefield\". Yea right....the airframe, pilots who fly them, and the maintainers who keep them will proved them wrong yet AGAIN!
Jackb, you keepm' straight dude!

| Post subject: | 242 Wings |
Wow! 242 wings on contract is awesome! When we briefed the 4-stars a couple of years ago, the options ranged from about 120 wings up to...242. 242 wings allows us to replace every thin wing in the fleet, allowing us to keep the entire 356 aircraft force structure on the books. We thought we would only get 210 wings (at $5.5M each!) which would force us to cut a squadron in 2013. The future is suddenly extremely bright for the Hog! Can anyone say 2025...50+ years of ATTACK! When the war in China kicks off in 2020, we'll go to war with F-22s, F-35s, UCAVs and the HOG! Coach |
