Just in case you guys were wondering, the A-10C's are officially in combat and are \"in the mix\" already. More to follow as soon as it can be released!!!

Very cool. Wonder how all the new fangled equipment is working. Do you know which targeting pod they are using? And how many jets total they took over? Just curious.

The 111th just came home the other day, with the ID and PA jets. Very good to see them back safe and sound.

Waltz, I'm pretty sure it will be the Litening II pods, no way the A-10s will get Sniper's.

...YET.
A buddy of mine at Nellis told me a while back they were testing the Sniper Pod on the A-10C's (or whatever you want to call the A-10A's being tested with the C model stuff) I told him the Lightning Pod blew my mind how amazing it was, he said the Sniper Pod makes the Lightning Pod look like a POS in comparison.
It's only a matter of time before the A-10 joins the rest of the AF with 1990's technology hahaha.

Litening's it is! The SNIPER has better optics, but parts are more available for the Litening's right now. Maybe, just maybe, before I retire, we will have all the new fangled gadgets. Everything else is working just fine. JDAMS dropped just like they advertised. After two years of very hard work, the guys at Nellis deserve credit for a job WELL DONE!!

In Logan's WarHawgs, in the front they have a picture of the Sniper pod mounted on an A-10. I remembered hearing or reading something about it being on the A-10s eventually. All the other A-10s seem to be carrying the Litening pods so I was wondering if the newer C's were going to the Sniper right away.

Thanks for the info guys!

Waltz, the Sniper was added to the software code of the A-10C for “future growth potential”. In other words the Sniper was there, the code was being written for the A-10C, why not include the pod so when the number of Snipers become available (or a new better pod is developed for the “front line“ precision strike aircraft) the A-10 could use the Sniper. Unless the AF buys a lot more Snipers, or the “new better pod” is developed and deployed, I don’t think you will see many A-10C’s flying the Sniper anytime soon…..IMHO of course.

From the Air Force Magazine Online daily report...

Quote:
The Guard Super Hogs have Struck: The newly operational A-10Cs of the Maryland Air National Guard's 104th Fighter Squadron are now in Iraq flying combat missions, according to Lt. Col. Kevin Campbell. They dropped ordnance for the first time just last week, he told reporters at AFA's Air & Space Conference Tuesday. Campbell said the A-10C \"precision engagement\" Warthogs performed an air strike in an area not far from Balad AB, Iraq on a known insurgent target Sept. 19. The A-10 pilots dropped two GBU-38 JDAMS on the target, destroying the building with no damage to nearby structures. Campbell, who led the ANG's testing efforts for the A-10C and is a pilot with the 175th Fighter Wing, said that members of the Michigan ANG are also deployed in the same rotation with the 104th Expeditionary Fighter Squadron. The 104th FS and the Battle Creek, Mich.-based 172nd FS are the first units to be fully equipped with the modernized warthogs.

Now that it has been released publicly, that's exactly what happened over here! The C's are kicking butt and taking names! No major problems, just the minor bullcrap stuff that always happens on a deployment. If you have any questions, please let me know and I'll do my best to answer them! Good day from IRAQ!

Is the Air force village up and running?

Hogfixer,
Yes, AF village is up and running, for the most part. We have showers and latrines and they just finished the pad for our own gym. That might take a while to get all the equipment, but at least its a start. Chow hall is about 1 mile from the \"Cans\" we live in. Flightline is 1/2 mile from \"Cans\". All in all, its not that bad. Conditions are slightly better than when we were in Bagram in '03.

That means it's like a paradise resort compared to Bagram in '02.

Sure is! I remember leaving the first night they actually used the \"Smurfs\" on the taxiways. From the stories I heard, I think I would have rather been there when I was than after. I look at pictures of Bagram now and can't recognize a lot of it with all the changes they have made.

I'll make it back over there one of these days, I am sure.
