That has some footage I've never seen before. Like the slow-motion of the gun firing, looks like it had the gas diverter on the muzzle. I was also impressed with the footage of the MER dropping off. I could be wrong, but I don't think it was supposed to work like that. Looked like they were trying to ripple drop, but it went really wrong, unless they were just jettisoning the rack and bombs.

Anyway, great find and thanks for the link.

As I recall MERs were never really cleared for the A-10. I've never seen them except on the protos.

I've never seen them even in photo's. They could never be hung on the wing stations because they interfeared with the flaps and alerons. All I'd ever worked were TER's.

I guess this is why. [lol]

Boomer,

If you looked at the TO it did show where the MERs could be loaded which were the I think 5&7 the ones in line with the Fence,

We did have over by WLT (Load Toad Training) MERs ,I think for show mostly.

, it was the LAU-88's THE TER MAV racks which had the Wing Flap problem, Fragging the POD and Flap when the in board MAV fired, but I guess they fixed the problem but we Never carried 6 MAVs only 4.

TER and single loading was a \"Big\" issue in the \"Sandbox\", The Beach and the UK \" used TERS for their MK-82's and CBU-58's but We didn't on our end.

They later stopped using the TERS due to reliability issues and hung each station with whatever the mission called for.

So its one of those \"Flip a Coin things\"

The A-10 was, and still is as far as I know, cleared to carry and use MSEs on stations 5/7, and I believe 6 also. They weren’t use, much like the LAU-88, because of reliability, drag, and a few more issues.

Here's a short video of mers being tested (4.09meg).....

We flew with the LAU-88 and three MAV's on it because we had the Litening II on station 9.

Are the so called \"un-used\" stations that were removed in mid 80's still removed?

Or does the old girl fly with all her stations now?

Thats a good question. I have seen Hawgs with stations removed but we always hd all 11. I would surmise that they were removed for wing station problems ? Dice, whats our very own Warthog Territory Mr. Peabody have to tell us about this ? Hmmm ?

ROFL, MR. Peabody!! The only two “unused stations” I know of were 2 & 10. They have always been stations which were not used very much because of their location, too far outboard for heavy loads ( 1,000 pounds or more) and too far inboard for loads like the ECM pod or AIM-9s. They were removed for a time by some units because of the reasons I listed above. They were also removed from the demo jets to give them a “cleaner” look and increase their maneuverability, even if it was slightly.

As far as I know 2 & 10 are used on all A-10 today (rockets and flares mostly) and I’ve even seen pictures of 500 ponders being loaded on these stations in OIF. Let me look around and see if I can find pictures of these stations loaded….

Outside of testing I believe this is the only time I’ve seen 2 & 10 loaded with anything besides rockets or flares. I was mistaken this was during Operation Enduring Freedom not OIF. The A-10C will now use 2 & 10 for the targetong pods.

Crap I just noticed the 500 pounders are loaded on stations 1 & 11. Hey I'll leave this one up anyway because you don't see 1 & 11 carrying bombs very often either. I think I have one of 2 & 10 loaded also, let me keep looking.

Yup, that's OEF, 2002. Operation Anaconda, when the 74th arrived at Bagram.

That's a 75th Bird? Did they just take what could get there or what?

They usually take some of both squadrons, this easies the burden of only one unit deploying and saves money because typically the other squadron has the follow up deployment.

Great video Dice, thanks. Yep, at DM in the late 70's we only hung flares and rockets on 2 & 10 as well. We always kept all pylons on, though I really wished they'd have let us pull the No. 6 CL. Your head could bounce around in between those central pylons like a damned pin ball going for the extra game.Image

I never once saw a MER at DM. With them, that is one hell of a lot of bombs.

BTW: while on YouTube, I also came across these:

Both are multi part series that are pretty good about Red Flag.

As I thought I might have read on here before sometime. Thanks Hitler!
