[salute]

I actually had orders to Eilson back in '80, but they got redlined because my retraining into CATM had already been approved.

As much as I loved working AF rifle ranges, I sure do wish I could have made it to AK.

305 will NEVER fly again. Holy crap, I've never seen a jet in worse shape. I'm talking 6 inches of standing water in the cockpit, and when they were pulling the wings, if a hyd line was in the way, well, it just got bent out of the way. One of my friends is still at Eielson in AR (Sgt Mcintosh in the article also used to be our section chief, cool dude) and he said it was a hell of a time getting the jet in the plane. Took all day and was a real beotch

They should have flown it to Bentwaters, glue the wings and a tail back on it, paint it Euro green again and make it the static display jet that the Bentwaters Cold War Museum folks have been asking for for years!

Cheers! M2

Sad that the last A-10 has left Eielson.

The story is wrong on one of it's statments, this was not the first time an A-10 has been dismantaled and shipped this way, Barksdale did the same thing in 2002, moving one of their old trainers to Sheppard AFB TX. in a C-5.

I'll see if I can find pictures....

Also when Depot moved from Mchord to Hill they did the same with the ABDR bird. I have pics from a guy I knew in Korea who was in Depot at the time.

As sad as it is I've been waiting on the Museum at Robins to get an A-10 for me go and visit when I get \"home sick\"...unless I do get a slot in the new unit at moody when it's activated....

They did the same kind of demo job on the A-10 Weapons trainer at Lowrey when it left. Not sure where it ended up though, but it was on a series of pallets near my shop at Buckley for a couple of months before it left. I do hate to see them that way.

Do the parts that were taken from this one get used as spares?

Just wondering because I remember watching a documentary on the history channel about planes coming back from the dead and they mentioned that the A10's had some problems with the wings and were being reinforced with parts from retired A10's?

Shame to see any plane get retired but if it helps keep the rest of them going then it isn't so bad.
