This is the \"Why?\" Everyone asks \"WTF?????????\" Is this some kind of \"Ego Trip?\" Or is it that their afraid to \"Hurt Someones Feelings because its a \"Offensive to Non- Smokers?\" Because of Joe Camel? You go out there, Paint \"NO on the tail\" and put back its \"Heritage MARKINGS\". That is to me an Insult! To those who served with the Cajuns and Us that saw her everyday \"Burning and Turning\" those Jets. Its like when the paint a \"A-10\" with a \"Fake\" tail number or any other jet so that it matches the \"Wing\". Thats a Priceless piece of Desert Storm History Ruined

Goose Goose I was kinda kidding piggy-backing on HogSnort's comment "late night...by the glow of the monitor...." If you do when to make your displeasure known you can go the the Nellis AFB website, scroll down to the very bottom of the page, click on "Contact us" and in the drop-down menu for the email select public affairs and...give them hell brother! I guess you're right about the "watching the forums" thingy.... |

They watch all the Military, VA, DOD forums like a HAWK. The Forum I use to Moderate the Admin. could tell who was logging in and watching because of what we talked about, same as MSVETS. Their always watching that place too. I'm sure that any forum that deals with a specific weapons system they monitor in case of OPSEC breach and you guys that hang-out on Firearms sites they got you covered too. You would be naive if you didn't think that, and its not a \"Tin Foil\" fantasy either. I'll have to do that Dice go to the Nellis Site. Goose |

Heres what I wrote to Nellis about \"Joe Camel\" Quote: Greetings ,
I saw the article and picture of A-10 255 that was with the 706th FS out of New Orleans \"The Cajuns\" going on display at Nellis AFB. I was \"Very Disappointed\" that the base chose not to leave \"The Desert Storm\" markings on the Jet. \"Joe Camel\" is a \"Historical Nose Art\" found in \"Many\" books about the A-10 and Desert Storm. Not including Us Desert Storm Veterans Who saw it almost on a daily bases .I was with the \"23rd TFW 76TH FS\" out of England AFB and We worked closely with the \"Cajuns\" AFRES as a Family. They performed an outstanding Job and that was one of their favorite \"Jets\". Even the USAFA saw it fitting to put another 706th jet the \"Chopper Popper\" on display with its \"Historical Paint/ART\" as a tribute . The A-10 sat in a Hangar there at Nellis for quite awhile with the Markings intact, its only fitting they should of been put back on. I seen too many times while I served Aircraft having their Tail Numbers \"Changed\" to match commands or Wings or made up to look like something they weren't . It might sound like \"Whats the Big DEAL?Its just an \"Jet\" it isn't real\" but it is \"Real\" to alot of Veterans and Members of the A-10 community who worked on and around some of these Historic War Birds and thats what \"Joe Camel\" was. signed ETC....... I doubt it will have ANY EFFECT but I wish I knew where all those \"Cajuns\" were, they'd pull a \"Coon-Ass\" Whoop-ASS on that.

I have sent a couple notes to Nellis PR and actually got pretty quick responses. Only thing was the response was usually a circle jerk tap dance around the queestion I asked! When the announcement came out about the 4477th TES Red Eagles being declassified, I sent a note asking about possibly getting some old pictures or some items I turned over before seperating. Even though declassified, I got the basic we dont know what your talking about line. Too bad I moved from overlooking the runway a couple years ago, otherwise I'd find me a sponsor to get me on base and I'da gone talked to some of those PR folks! |

I love how they put it on a stick, mounted it, cleared teh area, took a picture and put it online. Now it is surrounded by cones and orange fencing, has a B-1 stand under it (that replaced the \"cherry picker\" that sat there a few days) and they pulled it off the stick and put it back the other day. After they get the nice picture and all the press, it is now left \"in-work\" and half-assed.
