Didn't have time to check it out but they are setting up an A-10 static at the front gate park. Don't shoot me if I am wrong but it looked like the tail# was 964. Yea I know, it is somewhere else. Well I can tell you that the F-16 across from the MPF has the incorrect tail# on it. I will check it out and let you guys know. Maybe get a pic or two.

Been busy as heck lately. Going on base tomorrow with camera in hand.

It's not uncommon they repaint a static with the non-authentic tail number. When a base gets a plane sometimes the historical events of that MDS at that base or of a particular tail number that was there takes precedence over the importance of authenticity of the aircraft SN.

There are numerous instances of this with my F-106's. I never liked it, but what can you do?

It's not the right tail number for sure. 81-0964 was/is the only flying A-10 with an air-to-air kill, from my website....

\"The second air-to-air kill was archived by Capt Todd \"Shanghai\" Sheehy in aircraft 81-0964 while flying with the 511th TFS \"vultures\" out of Myrtle Beach SC.\"

It's stationed with the 23rd at Moody AFB Ga. I'll contact a friend of mine at the SPO and find out what the real number for this aircraft is. 964 was stationed at Shaw during the 90's and I'm sure that's why they used this tail number and not the real one.

I thought that Vultures in those days are based at Bentwaters UK.

Dice, I actually worked on 964 in the 90's here at Shaw. I got here in 92 and never left. Wonder I didn't commit suicide being here that long. LOL

Dutchy, the 'Vultures' were based at Bentwaters up till mid 88, then moved over to Alconbury along with the 509th.
When the 10th TFW at Alconbury closed for business in 92, the Hogs were returned stateside, the 'newer' Hog's mostly ended up at Shaw.
The 511th, who had been using some FY76/77 jets since about 1990 sent theirs to AMARC, except 77-259 which 'flys' in the American Air Museum at Duxford.

964 was the 74FS commander's flagship when it was at Pope. It was also one of the demo jets for a couple of years.

The 55FS was an F-111 squadron at RAF Upper Heyford before moving to Shaw. That was when the 20 TFW was at Heyford.

That's right. We were the 363rd TFW and the A-10's were in the 21st FS. Then we changed to the 20th and the 55th. A lot of guys came from Heyford with orders saying PCS from 20th TFW to 20th TFW, lol.

Yea it stopped by Hill back when I was still in uniform and I got a couple of pics of it in it's demo colors.

Could it be 75-0309 that is preserved at Shaw.

It could be.....it is a non-laste jet. I know 309 used to be one of the gate guards at Pope.
