Could someone help me to understand how the Pave Penny works?

I know it should give the pilot information about target location, is that done trough the HUD? If that´s the way, then the plane must be in line to the target?

What for is the cockpit-selectable four-digit code of the Pave Penny? I know nothing about Laser, do they have frecuencies or something like that? what for are those codes?

Thanks in advance, it´s been hard to collect such info, hope you will be able to help me.

Best regards,

Farris

there is a TV monitor on the right side of the consol, but I dont know if that is only for the Maverick missle or also for Pave Penny. About all I can tell you on the laser codes is yeah they can punch in the freq thier looking for to make sure they detect the proper target VERY important in close in CAS work. There is also probobly a "seek all" sort of mode for less demanding situations to pick it up quicker, but just a guess on my part.

The TVM is only used for Maverick video (and display of EGI info). PP spider is only displayed in the HUD and there is no "see all" mode. It sees the laser energy matching the 4 digit code the pilot and the GFAC set in.
