As you can see from the below locked thread at SimHQ I contune to make friends all over the net...

http://oldsite.simhq.com/simhq3/sims/bo ... 7;t=003567

My question to you guys is, am I wrong about this, has the Ragin' Cajuns out of New Orleans ever flown the "warthog face" as part of their paint scheem or, as stated in the thread, the shark's teeth like the 23rd's?

As far as I can tell, the only time the Cajuns flew the 'Hog-tusks' was when they borrowed a couple of jets for Desert Storm in '91.
Otherwise, their own jets noses sport no teeth, so the 'sim skin' is wrong.
I remember seeing a picture in the Dorr/Jolley Osprey book about the Hog, it showed a Hog with the Barksdale tusks carrying kill markings with a Cajun Hog driver in the cockpit.
I think the jet may have been 78-582? This jet was BD assigned at the time the Cajuns borrowed it.
Hope this helps.

Happy New Year!

Unless the teeth are a recent addition Id have to say no. I worked for the 47th at BD for a couple of years back in 96-98. NO planes would come up now and then..I dont ever recall seeing teeth on the nose. I looked in a pictorial history book of the A-10 by Don Logan that I have. It doesnt show NO planes with teeth in there either. Id guess they added it to the plane recently. Maybe while they were over in bagram. Hopefully someone from the 706th in NO can clear this all up for us. Its funny how that guy argues with decals that came with a model as proof of his arguement.

First off Dice sorry for the Divorce hope 2004 is profitable and happy for you.

Second was at the New Orleans Air Show from what I can remember there was one plane on display with Tusk. Don't know if it was a cajun plan. So many units out there that day. This air show though was a disappointment, many aircraft like the P-3 were not even represented by their units. No one was there to introduce or give tours around the P-3. Rumor in town is that unit is up for the budget ax. They did not do a good job of getting the public behind them.

Thanks for the replys guys! I feel bad about getting the thread locked but he was the one that started throwing insluts around. As you said unless they have added the tusks in the past year or so I know they are not part of the Cajun's paint scheem.

O'well minior point I know but I wanted to kinda' cross-check what I think I known on the subject.

DICE THERE WAS ONLY ONE RESERVE JET THAT HAD THE TUSK ON IT DURING D.S.
AWHILE BACK 80-248 (MACk) POSTED IT.
SO AND THATS MY ONLY MEMORY TOO SINCE I WAS THERE.
ALL THE CAJUNS HAD THE CRAWDAD .
THIS GUY IF HE'S GOING BY WHAT IS ON A DECAL SHEET,HE'S WAY OFF.
MOST DECAL SHEETS DONT EVEN DO THE RIGHT TAIL CAPS COLORS.

IF THEY HAD PAINTED SOMETHING FOR FUN SINCE THEN,SOMEONE WOULD OF SENT IT TO YOU OR ANOTHER HAWGDAWG HERE.

So they were painted with the Tusks during their deployment to bagram? Did you guys keep the nose art after returning home?

Decals were sent to them while they were at Bagram. The KC birds lost the decals shortly after returning home.

I don't have any myself. I'll have to check with the other guys and see what they have. Might take awhile as we are in the process of becoming reservists again instead of members of the active duty force.

Thanks KC, when you get the time! This really suprises me because of all the photos I saw of Bagram jets I never saw one with the Warthog face...learn something new everyday.

Dice,
Too bad about last night, I think we all want the best for LOMAC, but these things happen.
And, I think I figured out what happened with the taco group. OMG, where do these peeps come from? At first, I thought it was funny, kind of inside humor type stuff, then, I went, no, this is waaaaaaaaaaay too much crap.

Ah well, take care & happy 2004! (how's that book coming?)

We have a new Hawg in phase here at Spang. I remember hearing it was from Pope, but anyway, it's got the teeth, I thought it might be fun to catch it half-way through paint-barn with the teeth and the panthers on the engines.

Dice, that other website is a laugh. Basing their whole life on the accuracy of a plastic model kit. "I seen it, man. I seen it with my own eyes." The statement about the NO unit doing it's own thing is so true.

The new jet at Spang is 945 of Pope. We gave it to them.

OK,IS THE NEW ORLEAN BOYS BACK THEN THE 706TH OR 906TH?
I THOUGHT THEY WERE THE 706TH.
I THINK I KNOW WHERE THEY GOT THE IDEA FOR THE DECAL SHEET.

THE SQUADRON WALK AROUND #17 HAS PICTURES OR DRAWINGS OF 2 NO BIRDS.
IT HAS THE A-10'S ASSIGNED TO THE 906TH,WHICH IS WRONG AND UNLESS THEY PAINTED NO AFTER IT WAS TRANSFERED,THAT HOG WAS A BARKSDALE HOG.
IT WAS HOG NUMBER 78-582 FROM BAFB LA 46TFS.
IF YOU LOOK AT FRONT PAGE OF THE BOOK "A-10 WARTHOG" AMERICA'S MUDFIGHTER BY DRURY AND AT THE COLORED PIC'S IT SHOWS IT ON THE SOUTH RAMP STILL WITH ITS YELLOW STRIPE ON THE STAB.
I LOOKED THRU ALL MY BOOKS ON BOTH WINGS AND NO DIDNT HAVE A YELLOW STRIPE.
THAT WOULD ACCOUNT FOR THE HOG'S TEETH ON A NO BIRD DURING DESERT STORM.
OR TUSK.

Dice when you start a fight you really get the job done buddy. You know I loaded the coon asses jets at Al Jouf during DS 1 and I can't remember the shrimp much less any tusks. I can pull out my limited collection of photos from that FOL and see what I come up with. I do remember a BD jet being in the mix, was the tail cap gold? Like I said to much beer and stupid airmen have killed my memory. By the way even if you are wrong, which I don't think you are, you are still the A-10 guru. Next time let Snipe know you are going in hot and he can cover your six.

looks like a photoshop job to me...

the image of the teeth doesn't distort as it hits a rounded section of the nose.. its hard to tell because of the randomness of the lines.. the black i think is also too black (look @ the other black paint on the airframe).. but hey look dice one of your snow covered hogs just got tusks

some quickies

Kinda looks like a Thumbs up to me!

Speaking of door/nose art....
Any suggestions? I'd really like to do Dice's idea. But I wouldn't want to take credit for an idea as good as that. I got a few but the more there are, the better it could be.

Oh, and I only got maybe a week to do it.

The 706FS is part of the 926th FG I think.
I mentioned 78-582 in my earlier post, I think it remained with the Cajuns.
945 had a spell at Nellis as well as Pope, most likely an attrition replacement at Spang for 655 lost in 02.

Thanks everyone, I know BD is the only unit which has carried warthog fase as a unit and that normaly the Cajuns don't/didn't have it. Right now I'm taking the word of KChawg that they recived the decals and placed them on the jets while deployed and a couple at BD still have them.

Fender, yea I can get them stirred-up sometime!!

Yojimbo..great work man and yea I know it can be done but with him living near the base saying he has saw them and KChawg's statment I will just let it go.

Weasel 80-204, if you want to use my idea and can get it don't by all means do it!! I would love to see it on a door and I don't think I will be using the idea anytime soon...my days of my name on an aircraft are long gone!

There is at least one A/C that still has the warthog on it. It is from BD and on sitting on the ramp Davis-Monthan.
