Lets hear all the strange things people come up with who know absoultely nothing about the hog but think they do. The following I heard or should I saw I was told while on the East coast Demo team in 94 JAFO: How did you get these planes here? Me: (pionting to a flatbed truck) JAFO: WOW! I guess you guys can slap them wings on pretty quich huh? JAFO: I Built these planes you know.... Me: Yes sir you did? how interesting JAFO: Do you know why we had to put that there(pointing to apu exh) Me: No (thinking to myself---but I am sure you will tell me) JAFO: Its because this plane cant fly straight and the trust it produces in flight keeps this baby flying! JAFO: (pointing at sway braces)- When did they convert these to spray nozzles for crop dusting?????? Me: I couldnt respond...... No this one I met in Port St Lucie Flordia. An older gentlemen came up looking at the hog, he was with mr knowitall (you know these types) and I was lucky no to get mr knowitall, anyway, the older gentleman comes up and starts some small talk with me, then he says I think I built this jet. I said the usual, but somthing became clearer, he knew internal stuff that the average "joe" wouldnt, like location of old "ettr" boxes, and stuff like that. anyway he pulls out this retirement card from Fairchild. WOW someone who actually knows what they are talking about! We talked for about an hr and I let him get a little closer than the normal public, he had some interesting stories. Ok enough of mine. I know other demo teams have kept a "stupid question log" so lets hear some! JB Utinam logica falsa tuam philosophiam totam suffodiant! |

LOL, when I was on the Demo Team, I used to get a kick out of overhearing "Mr. Knowitall" tell their friends at the airshow all about the Hawg...LOL 90% of the time the would be wrong. It's tough to not correct them. One really memerable moment is when I overheard two ederly gentlemen conversing. The one swore to the other the gun was a .50 cal...LOL. The best question I ever had was from an 8 year old kid..."Sir, what is the muzzle velocity of the GAU-8 30MM Gatling Gun?" I was speechless... Go Ugly Early ! No body's ugly after 2:00 A.M. Ya afterburners! That is when the pilot gets a no-start with a fine fuel mist coming out the tailpipe and the crewdog asks "sir, are your circut breakers pushed in?" There is always dead silence on the comm link and then the Crew dog says "don........"Pow instant afterburner! JB Utinam logica falsa tuam philosophiam totam suffodiant! |

I MUST CORRECT MYSELF.......usually when you get the 'afterburner' effect it is not because of a un-set circut breaker, it is because the inverter was left off...I just realized my mistake while replying to another thread. Crew dogs set the CB's for the pilots so we would NEVER forget to re-set one, but we dont turn the inverter on, flight-suit-inserts do that just before starting the APU. I know I messed up but hell its been 4 years since I worked on a hog Utinam logica falsa tuam philosophiam totam suffodiant! |

When I was in a Alaska I met an elderly woman who lived there with her husband. She asked me what I did and when I told her I was associated with the A-10 she started asking me specific questions about the Hawg and past Mods that where done. Turned out when she was younger she used to work at the Fairchild factory building up wire harnesses for the jet. I was floored. Some of the most outrageous crap I've ever heard on the A-10 is at the FireHog site. The guy that runs it spouts off like an expert and spews more dis-information than anyone I've heard.
