OK, kinda confusing question I know, but there is so much expertise on this forum I had to ask. From the 18th's official history (http://www.eielson.af.mil/units/og/18fs.htm) it says:
quote:
On January 1, 1982, the squadron moved to Eielson AFB. Here, the 18 TFS mission became that of providing close air support in the A-10 Thunderbolt. On March 7, 1991, the 18 TFS received its first F-16C, which it still flies today. The squadron then earned its current designation, the 18th Fighter Squadron, on June 1, 1991.

The key word in the blurb above is "On March 7, 1991, the 18 TFS received its first F-16C." The question is did the 18th continue to fly Hawgs after it became the 18 FS in June, or was it only Vipers?? Cheers! M2 |

Only Vipers I think, the Hogs were driven by the 11th TASS. |

Ya, the A-10s were flying as the 18th FS until they flipped to the F-16s. They were the 11th TASS till the re-org aligned them as the 355th FS. You something that can be confusing at times?.... You've got the 355th FS flying under the 354th FW and the 354 FS flying under the 355th FW. Both with A-10s. Cheers db Being responsible means sometimes pissing people off. Gen Colin Powell ret |
