I told you guys I was going to keep bugging you until I get my answers so, here we go again....

Hawg166, what is the stroy behind your art?

Who's door is this (I got it from someone here) and what's the story behind it?

Coach, TG, Hawg166, and the rest of you Active, Guard, and Reserve people who visit this forum could you PLEASE ask the Crew Dawgs at your base to take a minute and drop me a line and give me some background info on their door art? I'll make a flyer today that you can print-out and post in your units breakrooms, if you would, and post it here later.

Mr. Don Logan is going to give me some photos of Desert Storm nose art and ladder door art he's collected through the years which will really help my collection.

This collection could be the most comprehensive A-10 artwork collection found anywere and having the background on each peice is very important.

Thanks in advance for any help your guys can give me, together we can document this peice of A-10 history.

Sounds like another book deal, dice. Kinda like all the WWII nose art books.

I think 30MM jr's boss is a former A-10 CC. I'll have him post at Scott AFB, too.

Thanks 30mm! I just saw a book this past weekend titled "The art of war" which was a nice book on WWII nose art. It would be nice to have an A-10 art book and I may look at it down the line but, all I'm worried about right now it getting the art and info before they are lost.

You can get the flyer here...

I KNOW THIS IS A SHOT IN THE DARK,
IN 1985 THE WHOLE 23RD HUR-E-VACED TO TOPKEA KANSAS IN LATE AUGUST.
WE ONLY LEFT 6 PLANES HOME.
A LOCAL PHOTO GUY GOT EVER JET,PLUS DOOR ART AND CREW BLOCK.
HE WAS PRO BY THE EQUIPMENT HE WAS USING.

I TRIED LOOKING IT UP BEFORE AND GOT NOTHING.
I'LL TRY AGAIN.

BECAUSE THERE WAS SOME BEAUTY OF DOOR I SAW WHEN I FIRST GOT THERE IN 85,BUT THE 74TH AND 75TH COVERED THEIRS AND MOST OF THE 76TH REPAINTED NEW OVER OLD ART.

ALL THOSE PICTURES I TOOK,LOST IT MAKES ME CRY NOW.

Dice I didnt forget you. I have asked the guys around the breakroom to write me up a little explanation of why they did their doors. Seems most people arent as enthusiastic about it as I am. Most guys look at me and say something like.............."Cuz I think its cool". But I promise you I will make a second effort and get itto you.
As for me and my assistant Crew Chief, we kinda think Snoopy embodies everything anyone in aviation could ever hope to be. I mean face it if you were a pilot and you wanted the coolest mount you would have to want to take a spin on the doghouse. He obviously is the one guy that really has done it all. Chicks always dig him no matter what day it is. He is the original Joe Cool etc etc etc. SO why wouldnt a dog of his stature settle for anything less than a Hawged up Dog House. Thats how 80-166 got be so 'Dog Gone Ugly'.

By this time tomorrow I shall have gained either a pearage or Westminster Abbey........Nelson

Thanks for the effort Goose! Hawg166, I under stand when you say most are not as interested as we are and if "because it's cool" is all you can get then I understand! I do thank you for trying and I just have to post every once-in-a-while hoping to get that one more responce.

I love the way you put why your door has Snoppy and you have made me look at him in a whole new light!! I will add your's and Goose's doors to my page this weekend.

I'd snap a picture, but last phase I sandblasted my door down and took Scooby Doo off of it. As soon as its back from depot and we get some downtime during acceptance maybe we'll have a new design made for it...we'll see ! But I'll def. keep this thread in mind. - Mark

I would like to known why you choose Scooby Doo and get images of your new door this way I have a record of the door art histroy of your aircraft.

Goose I remember you telling me where you art came from (live free or die was you state motto) but I don't remember why you used the duck???

Yeah Mike it is still on it an will more than likely remain. That was done by a Mr. Rosario from Southwick. He was an art major at Westfield State College. he did my original door art on 166 that i got rid of because he didnt have the same 'vision' that I did. Eventually Ernie Smith got what I was looking for on 79-216 with his "Bravehawg".

By this time tomorrow I shall have gained either a pearage or Westminster Abbey........Nelson

The Scooby Doo door art stemmed back all the from when the plane joined our unit back in 78' right up until now. The DCC at the time had the nickname "Scooby" because thats just the way people saw him andf the way he acted. The original crew chief "Scooby" recently "retired" from the unit so the plane now has a new full-time technician who is the new DCC but Im still the ACC on it. We agreed the Scooby era is over and its time for something new. I'll keep ya posted on what the new door will look like. I'll email you the most recent pic of 642's door before I sandblasted it off last during phase after we got back from the desert. - Mark

DICE,

"LIVE FREE OR DIE" IS NEW HAMPSIHERS STATE MOTTO,THE PILOT'S HOME STATE.
ITS NOT A DUCK,ITS ONE OF THOOSE "GUARD GEESE" YOU SEE ON FARMS.
THEIR USUALLY BIG AND WHITE.
WHEN THE ARTIST DREW IT CAPT GOOSE HAD SHOWED HIM A PICTURE OF WW2 NOSE ART WITH DONALD DUCK WITH A MACHINE GUN.

IT WAS JUST UPDATED TO FLT SUIT WITH A GAU-8 AND A CIGAR.

THATS WHY SOME TIMES I REFER TO IT AS THE "GATTLIN GOOSE"

YOU HAD,CAPT GOOSE AND ME HIS CREWCHIEF SGT GOOSE.
AND "GANDER " WAS CAPT GOOSE'S CALL SIGN.

IT WAS A REAL GAGGLE OF GOOSE'S BACK THEN.

I KNOW HE WENT TO KOREA IN I THINK 89. I DONT KNOW WHERE HE ENDED UP.

Well Dice, prepare to add another!

My pilot and I finnaly put our heads together and got our desgin down. Nothing really spectacular considering neither of us can draw, but we're improvising! I finally own the title of "Most airframe hours". One more phase then on to 10,000!!!!!

I'll e-mail you pics as soon as I get her back on the jet.

Dice, Do you know if Mr. Logan has any pics of the door on my old jet 77-0181?
It was a drawing of Conan running head on towards you with his sword in his right hand. As I remember across the top is said "CONAN the DESTROYER"
I know someone came out and took pics of our doors, but I never saw any of them and the only one I have is one of my Dad and I standing by it.
Cheers
Duane
