An interesting aside: During Desert Storm, why were a/c 79-181 and 77-197 buried in the desert at KKMC? http://www.pats-world.com/gulfwar/abdr- ... 181-41.jpg http://www.pats-world.com/gulfwar/abdr- ... 181-11.jpg http://www.pats-world.com/gulfwar/abdr- ... 181-03.jpg Some others: http://www.pats-world.com/gulfwar/abdr-F4/0571-2.jpg http://www.pats-world.com/gulfwar/abdr-F16/488-8.jpg http://www.pats-world.com/gulfwar/abdr-F16/488-3.jpg |

79-197 TAIL NUMBER NOT 77-197. 181 AND 197 BOTH WERE STRIPPED AND PUSHED OVER IN THE DESERT. THERE IS A F-4G TOO BURIED THE SAME AREA. PRESS TO TEST |

Could be wrong though! shuck |

77-0197 was the NAIL FAC Hog that Pat Olson tragically lost his life in whilst trying to land in 'manual reversion' at KKMC. 79-181 happily brought back its driver Rich Biley after a 'no brakes roller coaster ride' emergency landing. |

Seems an odd way to dispose of an aircraft, unless you're the Iraqi Air Force.<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle> |

Both jets were knackered.......particularly 197 which finished up inverted. I think 181 broke a couple of 'legs' amongst other things. |
