hi, abject newbie here.

i read a book back in the 1980s (around the time of "firefox" with clint eastwood, but before it) that involved a specialized helmet worn by an a10 pilot in germany that connected him to his hog in such a way that he "tasted" enemy radar locks, "itched" incoming missles, etc. he could control his hog in such a way that he could take out mig-25s, or most of them. the one he couldn't nailed him, and he crashed in east germany.

most of the book involved the recovery of the pilot (his body; he was killed) and the helmet and other electronic gear relating to the helmet by one of a group of drivers stationed in potsdam. they recovered downed american/nato pilots using souped-up but essentially normal-looking american-made cars that were heavily modified.

IF i remember correctly, it was called "the jesus box", after the helmet's/electronics properties...but i can find no reference on the web to such a book. i am hoping one of you hog fans out there have heard of, read, remember, or know of the book...'cause i'd like to get another copy and reread it. it was a hell of a ride, and the descriptions of the hog in action were pretty memorable (i remember the vulcan cannon shredding the mig-25s in the worst way).

anyway, thanks for any information anyone can give to me.

best,
madwing.
