Watched the History Channels A-10 show this weekend and was pretty impressed. Thought they did a good job showing the A-10's mission and early development. Even had some footage from before the slats and a whole lot of when the IFR boom was in place. I thought it was pretty good, they only mixed up afew minor details. Anyone else see it? Comments if ya did... |

I didn't see one recently, but what were some details of this one? Was all the present day footage/intervies from Pope AFB and 75th pilots? I ask because the British History Channel came to Pope last summer and spent all day filming on the flightline and in phase, and interviewed a whole bunch of pilots. IMHO, the best part is when you can see me in the background for a second, hehe. I jacked and moved a few B-1 stands around so they could get better camera angles, and then they taped me strapping in the pilot a few times, but I wound up on the cutting room floor except for a half a second. It never aired in the U.S. as far as I know, but a friend of mine found it on the internet and downloaded the whole show. I just looked it up on the History Channel's webpage, and now it's listed, but it wasn't a month ago or so. I wonder if this is the same episode, just now on the American History Channel. JMF, please let me know some more details of the episode you saw so I can know if it's different. If it is, I'll have to search for it too. Crew Chiefs make it happen..... PIL SUNG! |

Now that you mentioned it, yes most of the present day interviews were 75th jets. MOst of the special revolved around early delopment and the development of CAS as mission. It touch on A-10 possible reteriment, Gulf War, Present day Gulf War, and such. The early footage was what immpressed be though, someone dug up quite a lot of early footage. |

Seems like shows always go to Pope to take pictures of the teeth. I could think of about 5 or 6 other places that would be a lot easier and much more fun to visit than Fayettenam. I've had people ask me where our teeth are at airshows....man I get tired of explaining that one. The show was heavy metal btw. I remember quite some time ago a journalist type asking where they should go to do a history channel show on the hog. Every a-10 unit flashed their public affairs number on this site for that one. Hahaha....yeah I did too. Smitty |

Finally, I didn't think it'd ever air. They taped it a year ago, and before they left that day, they said, "Yeah, it should be on tv by September, or October at the latest". Well, good to know I'm a tv star now, hehe. Crew Chiefs make it happen..... PIL SUNG! |
