Picked-up Randy Walker's book "More painted ladies" this weekend and look what I found....

<img src="http://www.warthogpen.com/bs/79-0166.jpg" border=0>

The book has over a 150 A-10 door and nose art pictures, if you like A-10 art this book is a must have.

WOW. That's really cool. I know the pilot that flew that jet; he's at Whiteman now. Awesome guy - met him at Barksdale while he was going through the TX course and actually got him back in touch with Goose at that time.

Goose, you talk to Root lately?

DICE,

I HAVE BEEN DOING SEARCHES FOR HOURS TRYING TO RUN DOWN WHO PAINTED THE DOORART ON 0166 AND THE HOST OF OTHER 23RD/76TFS JETS IN THE LATE 80'S.
MINE WAS NEVER SIGNED BUT I KNOW IT WAS DONE BY A LOCAL ARTISIT.
WHOEVER DID THE TIGER 1 ART,VANGUARD ONE ART,ETC... DOWN THE LINE.
PLUS SOME 74TH AND 75TH JETS BEFORE THE GREAT "SANDING OCCURED" OVER ON THE SOUTH RAMP.
THE ARTISIT HAD TO HAVE DONE 20+ HOG DOORS BETWEEN 87-89 AND LIKE EVERYONE TOOK A PICTURE FOR HISTORY.
IF WE HAD A NAME,AND HAS PICTURES IT WOULD BE THE "HOLY EAFB DOORART" FIND AND A SLAM-DUNK FOR YOUR BOOK DICE.
I'LL KEEP SEARCHING
GOT ANY IDEAS?

Goose, Nigel (one of our friends from the UK) had an idea, how about writing to the local paper in LA and see if they would could run an appeal article asking the locals for help. They could tie it into the Hawgsmoke 2004 with something like "Hawgsmoke 2004 renews interest in local A-10 history" or something like that. You could also mention the book I'm trying to write.

Good luck Bro!!!

YUP. That's ROOT alright! He was responsible for the same kind of loving and pure acts, like obliterating Iraqi artillery, hunting down HVT’s and treating other targets like most dog treat a fire hydrants, as he did in the past. And he always had a grin coming out of the plane.

DICE,
THE THE NEW BOOK OF DOOR ART,SLIM AND I LOOKED OVER IT LAST NIGHT AND ACFT 80-0201 PG 64 "FROM THE ASHES A NEW BEGINNING" YOU MIGHT KNOW BUT I DIDNT, WAS PAINTED ON 201 AFTER IT WAS THE FIRST BELLY LANDED A-10.
I REMEMBER THE LANDING,BUT NEVER SAW THE DOORART.

"MISFIT" ON PAGE 65 WAS 82-2653 BEFORE IT WENT TO DEMO,THE DOOR ORG. CAME FROM GUNSMOKE 85

I'LL WRITE MORE BECAUSE SOME OF THESE DOORS ARE MISSED MARKED,I'LL LOOK IT UP FIRST BEFORE I GET "WT'ED"
