While looking for some footage I shot at Poinset Range back in the early 90s I ran across a clip I shot on the flight line at Shaw during that time. What was cool is I shot a clip of 81-0964 (only active A-10 with an A2A kill) and it shows the aircraft’s door art. The art is of a pair of dice showing two fives (for the 55th) with a yellow lightning bolt between the dice and the words, “Warthog’s Pair-O’-Dice” above and below the dice. On the bottom of the door is “War Hog 1” like in the image below.
What I found interesting, besides the fact my on-line icon is a pair of dice, is the use of the term Pair-O’-Dice. I believe this phrase come from the 90th TFS patch, a unit I was assigned to for years. Whoever came up with the art for this door mush have know of, or had ties to, the 90th TFS at Clark AB Philippines. This is really cool because of the fact (as you all know) I love door art and this one seems to tie two of my favorite aircraft and old units, the F-4E/G (we had both in the 90th) and the A-10 together.
I would love to have a pic of this door or maybe Jimbo (or anyone good with a graphics program) could reproduce it?? I can send anyone a nice line-drawing (which jackb sent me) of a ladder door and try to get a better image of the door off my TV to use to reproduce this for me….any help??
BTW- 964 is at Pope now and the last I heard is was one of the Demo jets.
