OK, here's what i want to know.... What on the A-10C should've been included but wasn't, and what HAS been included that shouldn't have been. On a scale of 1-10, how happy are the crewdogs, pilots, etc with what will become the Charlie model Hog? "One should die proudly when it is no longer possible to live proudly." ~ Friedrich Nietzsche |

plans and layouts for the A-10c aren't even serioulsy under way, all the talk is just that for now...talk. from what i hear the things maitainers would have to deal with would not be too too much different once all the new quarks are gone, but we will not find out any of this for quite some time, i'm anxious i know that much...i wanna stealth A-10 with thrust vectoring, yeehaw!! just sit back, and let the 30mm do the work!!! |

On my wish list would be replacing the HUD, HARS, Fuel Qty Intermediate Device and it's wiring, and the CAVTR (8mm recorder) The future looks interesting for the "C" model; hopefully the MTBF (failure) rate is accurate during spare LRU (parts) acquisition. I think the pilots will be happy and it's too early for a maintainer to rate it on a scale of 1 to 10. It will definitely add new life and capability to the A-10. Just my two cents. Wade, Your time line is a little off. The first proof kits are being installed. Dice mentioned earlier that Flight testing begins some time next year. Edited by - kungfu on Nov 30 2004 8:39 PM Edited by - kungfu on Nov 30 2004 8:46 PM |

Sniper I would love to get into this but, I'm limited on what I can say. PE is in the "trial install" stage so pilots and maintainers in the field have little-to-no hands on experance with the system, except the ones at Eglin, and that is VERY limited. I have been involved with PE for it's entire life and "we" have tried to make it as "maintenace and user friendly" as we could but that will not be proven until the aircraft flys in the field for a period of time. I will be every interested how the pilots and maintainers rate the system later down the line because it will be kinda' like seeing my daughter go on her first date! Kungfu, all your wishes are coming true in seprate TCTOs within the next year or so. Ugly But Well Hung |

I'm glad to see the old girl getting some new "toys" but at the same time it's kinda sad....I haven't worked on her since 1998, but know there are some everyday things I could go out to one right now & do....but once the mods are done, she'll be an entirely new ACFT...I think it may be time to find a guard or reserve unit to "play" with....only one problem....there is a very large difference between GS-12 pay & E-4 pay...lol....still considering it though.... |

yes you're right about tests being under way, but isn't that all at this point, as far actual "C" model upgrades are concerned. i didn't know of anything actually set in stone yet...that would be very cool though. just sit back, and let the 30mm do the work!!! |

<On a scale of 1-10, how happy are the crewdogs, pilots, etc with what will become the Charlie model Hog?> I'm not certain it's possible to make all the pilots happy. You could have 10 pilots in a room and you're going to get 12 opinions on how things should be..that's just the way it is. I have distinct memories of sitting in an IFFCC meeting in Owego while a group of pilots discussed the shape and placement on the "X" on the HUD. I won't even tell you how long it took to come to a concensus. That was PAINFUL. OLD Chief |

The test installs going on now will fine-tune the mod's install further but not change the basic system itself. DT's first flight of an A-10C will be in the Jan-Feb time-frame. Ugly But Well Hung |

prkiii, I'm not sure how serious you are about the ANG or AFRES A-10 units, but the full time technician/ART slots for crewchiefs (as an example) are between the WG-10 and WG-12 payscale. Each AFSC has a different civillian wage grade. It's a bit different than the GS scale, because there is no locality pay. Most units are always looking for experienced prior service members for full and part time positions. The traditional part time members are paid on the regular MIL pay scale during drills and TDY's. I jumped ship after my 3.5 years at Moody Air Command (68&69th). I've been pretty happy since '97 working the A-10 in the ANG on a full time basis. I'm sure there are plenty of people here that can provide more info, if you're considering. |

You're entitled to 15 days Military Leave a year over and above your regular vacation time. Do the math and you'll find that's actually 3 work weeks. I'm sure you've heard the term "double dipping"..that's what it's all about. Old Chief |
