We are making a large scale radio control model with split ailerons, fowler flaps and slats - can anyone tell us the ammount of movement on the leading edge slats on the real A10?. All other controls are finished.

The amount of movement on the slats are full up and full down. The movement speed is really freakin fast. As you may or may not know, the slats are used to channel air into the engines at high angles of attack as well as for increasing the wing area at low speeds. I am however pretty sure that the primary purpose is the former. There are no leading edge slats like on the F14 or F15 in such a conventional manner.

I believe the prototype A-10s did not have either slats or flaps. The slats function only to control airflow to the engines at high AoA. They have no lift function and add two units of drag when extended. I think they move about six inches.
