It is a real hoot the things you pick up when observing people that dont know much about jets or airplanes in general.

Intresting concept, shouldn't all pilots be required to spend at least a month as a CC's shadow. I know we had a program like this with some banked pilots awhile back and it gave the pilots some valuble insight as to what it's like to be a ground pounder as well as how the aircraft operates.

Tell me about it. When I was at Jaber, alot of folks kept coming for tours of the flightline, (becuase everyone loves an A-10 with teeth...) and some Army troops came out, the ones who man the Patriot batteries. One question asked (not really a dumb one since helicoptors do it) was where does the brass fall out when the gun is fired. The question that blew my mind was...
Army guy: "So how many gears does the engine have?"
Me: "What?"
Army guy: "How many geas does the engine have? 4? 5?"
Me: (trying not to laugh) "No gears, there's off, really slow up to kinda slow"

There are 10 kinds of people in the world: Those who understand Binary, and those who don't.
