What's going in the empty hole there? More ACP stuff? Or is it left out for security issues?
Looks good But they are way behind in the Fire T-Handle Mod!!

Hogfixer2001, the empty hole is for the stand-by ADI, clock, and UHF channel indicator they just weren't installed.
Glad you guys like the pics.

Well jackb one way to look at is you shouldn't have any more write ups for the stuck buttons on the acp, missing rounds counter lense or even the ever elsusive homing buttons... well at least it looks that way from the pictures.

The MFDs have all the ACP fuctions in them, the panel you're talking about is the new AHCP (Armament Hud Control Panel.

I was trying to crack a joke :) They both have fingerprints on them. In 15's they are all called Multi-Purpose Displays because any info on one can be displayed on any other display. It's personal preference as to where you want the info. During engine runs, I used to call up the radar on the upper left, engine instruments on the upper right, and the ground map on the center. Somtimes I would swap the radar display to flight instruments for a different ambiance in the cockpit, LOL.

It looks good! Does anyone remember the digital fuel gauges we tested back in 89-90? They seemed great, but they never came about. Does anyone know what ever happend to them?

Goose,

While at Myrtle Beach we only had like 2 hogs in Demon Sq that had them. It was just a testing phase.

JBpig,

To answer your question on the digital fuel display it was really just a fading idea. Hoewever some brain children are really trying hard up at Ogden to develop a new fuel ID that will not require a long ass cal like the current one does. Instead you will only have to push one button on the damn thing and it will calibrate itself. Might be wishful thinking on their part but it would be nice on us pointy heads.
Oh and for everyone else the jet pictured is probably A/C 242 from Nellis, we were suposed to have it done and back to us months ago but i guess the contractors doing the mod on our first couple of jets are some scary people and have run into more problems than you could believe. Not really looking forward to working the jets from an avionics stand point when these hit the field. But hey we'll get it done, we always do!!!!!

The new fuel ID will be installed on 220 for testing next week and should be ready for the field in a few months.

The jet is 81-0989 at Eglin (DT) and not one from Nellis. Saying the contractor installing the mod here at Hill are some "scary people" is just wrong in to many ways to go into here! They have run into some problems yes (and some of the problems are "green" aircraft related) but, you have to remember this is only the second trial-install so the process is still being refined and will be for the next few jets.
I would not talk about people, or processes, unless I was sure about what I was saying!!

Will this mean we get more avionics troops in the AMU's. or will we continue to struggle in that area?

Coach, I'm not sure what ACC's plan for manning to support the A-10C is but, I do know a lot of fuctions, including trouble-shooting the systems, are going to fall on weapons and not just avionics.

CK, trial installs and kit proofs are scary things. What works on paper sometimes just doesn't work out on the jet, there's a harness in the way or an Adel clamp that's too small; I can tell you from personal experience there's one clamp in the cockpit on the right side harness fall, outboard of the master caution panel that you just don't ever want to change. Something as simple as a backshell on a pre-made harness that perhaps should have been a 90 degree rather than straight can add days to a mod. Ever try to de-pin a 25 year old connector? Some of the locks just won't give it up and you end up changing the whole damn thing, assuming you can even get a new one. Every time the contractor runs into a problem, they have to stop, figure out a way to fix it, submit a MECR (Maintenance Engineering Change Request), wait for approval and then red-line the drawings. All of that's important when it comes to configuration control, a concept I used to scoff at but now that I'm working an airframe that doesn't have it, I've discovered just how important it is. Hill and Lockheed have done a pretty good job of keeping all the hogs the same and as big a pain the a_ _ as it is, I hope they keep it up.
