On a related note, just picked up a surplus Eagle Bobtail for $300, if anyone remembers those.......jacked up bobtail with chevy truck front clip. Needs minor refurbishment before I turn around and sell it, but man what a terrible ride that thing is! No real suspension to speak of, you as the driver absorb every little bounce in the thing as it cruises along at 15 mph top. Only major thing is the 4 wheel steering isn't working. No wonder the AF got rid of most of them (though I still see a few around in use).

Anyone here remember when USAF AGE equipment was painted yellow?

MY FIRST 4 YRS THE AGE EQUIPMENT IN MAC WAS STILL YELLOW,TUGS ,COLEMANS,YUKES ETC...,SCOTT AFB,YOKOTA AB, PLUS THERE WAS ONE YELLOW TUG AT ENGLAND AFB WHEN I FIRST GOT THERE.

THEN YOU HAVE TO ASK "HOW MANY OF YOU REMEMBER REFLECTIVE TAPE HAVING TO BE SEWED TO YOUR FIELD JACKETS AND SUCH? YOUR REFLECTIVE BELTS WERE MADE FROM FAB SHOP?
THOSE WERE THE DAYS OF YELLOW AGE EQUIPMENT

LOL. I was wondering because when you look at most AGE....jammers, stands, towbars, etc; underneath the flaking green paint, they're yellow.

How about back in the day when USAF vehicles all had on the doors and on the back:

I bet a tear came to Chingus' eye when he saw that Type 7! I guees he likes yelling at trainee's almost as much as throwing radio's at the Crew Chiefs in the 54th!! LOL

Type 7, the yellow you see these days underneath the paint is zinc chromate primer.

Hey Goose do you remember the cotton fatigues back when pants had zippers instead of those damm buttons and you could have short sleeve fatigue shirts.

Goose, I remember those days clearly.I have two field jackets hanging in the closet ,one from about 68 ( with the hood in the large collar) with bright color 23rd/75th patches still on it. And another, the one everybody got issued later on with the short collar, with a button on hood with the fake fur around the edge(Got it while in Korea) with the subduded color patches from my last base Moody. Both have the reflective tape for night shift flightline work. Both are to small for me to wear, but they remind me of "old times" whenever I look at them.

Ah. Well that explains it. I'd thought it was leftover yellow paint from before. I'd thought the primer was usally green like inside the aircraft panels, but that's good to know.

COTTON UTILITY UNIFORMS,I LOVED MINE
I WAS ISSUED ALL THE NEW PREM PRESS OUT OF BASIC,BUT HAD TO GET COTTON ONES WHEN I GOT TO SCOTT AFB.
THEY HADNT CHANGED THE TO'S YET FOR RE-FUELING AND THEY STATED ONLY"NON-STATIC PRODUCING" AND THEY HADNT OK'D PREM -PRESS YET.
SO THE SQUADRON SUPPLIED US WITH COTTON ONES.

RAINGEAR WAS "BRIGHT YELLOW",WE STILL HAD FOLKS WALKING AROUND WITH "COLORED PATCHES AND BLUE NAME TAPES..

THEN IN JAPAN WE WORE BLUE UTILITY UNIFORMS,SHORT SLEEVE,AND HAD BLUE COTTON BOMBER JACKETS.

ENGLAND AFB I WORE THE GREEN FATIGUES HALF WITH LONG SLEEVES HALF WITH SHORT.
THEN WE GOT THOSE DAMN BDU'S,BOTTONS I HATED! MY EX PUT VELCRO
ON ALL MY POCKETS AND INSTALLED ZIPPERS IN MY PAINTS AND SEW THOSE ANNOYING BELLY POCKETS SHUT AND TOOK OUT THE PLEATS ON THE POCKETS,BUT KEPT THE LEG ONES WHOLE,PLUS I HAD 2 BDU SHIRTS THAT WERE "PREMANT SHORT SLEEVED" CUT OFF THE CUFF,THEN SHORTENED THE SLEEVE AND SEW THE CUFF BACK ON.

I GOT AWAY WITH IT UNTILL TRAVIS AFB,SOME "PFE NOSE MF"WHINNED ABOUT IT.SO I JUST WORE THEM UNDER MY COVERALL'S

We had 3 of those damn chevy tugs! In the winter we had to put chains on the tires which made it even more of a jarring ride!! I used to call them the kidney busters! And our steering didn't work either!

We just got rid of our chevys a couple years ago. The steering didnt work because there was just one hydraulic pump for the brakes and the steering. Put your foot on the brake and the steering didnt work or the other way around.
