quick question that I hope one of you maintainers can answer.

from what I understand the airplane goes into 'Phase' about every 400 flight hours. Question is... is that more often than other aircraft that are used in a CAS role? I mean flying at lower altitudes and the stress of manuvering etc. does the way the jet gets used mean that it needs to go into a more serious inspection regemin earlier than say... an F-15E or F-16. I know all three aircraft are constructed differently. I just don't want to say... "the hog goes through Phase inspection more frequently than other jets because of the environment it flies in...etc."

Besides I can't remember what the number is for the Viper.

Thanks

The F-16's phase time is 400 hrs as well. Can't speak on the F-15 as it has been over 20 years since I have worked that jet.

sounds like a standard then... I was thinking that maybe the hog goes thru phase quicker but I guess not.

Thanks tho...

Is much of Phase going civilian at some of the bases?

Isn't phase time set by the inspection concept the unit falls under and, what is inspected (-6 requirments) set by the aircrafts FSMP??

Thanks to all. the basic premise was a thought in my head that A-10s needed to be inspected more/or less than other jets doing a similar job... 'more' meaning that they are flying them hard and often. 'less' meaning that other jets are more liable to 'break' in that environment.

Yeah, agree on the ATC bases, but have been seeing them working Phase at DM too. Is it headed that direction?

A-10 Phase inspections are based on -6 requirements that have changed as the airframe has matured (quite gracefully), and maintenance data has been accrued. When I started working hogs there were 8 Phase inspections at 100 hour intervals (Dice, correct me if I'm wrong). Then it went to 6, 4, and then 2 at 400 hours. It really doesn't have to do with the type of mission it flies at it does the with the maintenance repair data collected.
