The last 23rd jet I saw with door art was in 2001 or 2002, do you know when the last art was removed from the 23rd jets?

Not to steal the spotlight from Coach, but I believe I can help. The only jet that had door art the whole time I was at Pope was 79-0213. It was painted by the wife of another CC (at Nellis now, great friend, I can email him about it if you have any questions). It was only on the jet for a very short time, then it went to depot. When it came back, to everyone surprise it was still there. It was ordered to be removed, but this was the last thing the CC wanted. So he covered it with masking tape while he pressed the issue and tried to get an exeption made. Well, it was denied and painted white less than a month later. You say in your question this was 2001 or 2002. If you are sure 2001 is a possibility then that was the year. It was definitely gone in 2002. Not to add to any confusion, but I thougt it was removed in 2000, although it may have been removed early 2001, explaining my confusion.

Thanks for the info jackb. If you could I would like to know the name of the person who painted the door (if they would like credit in my book) and how did it manage to be the only one to get painted in the 23rd at a time when door art was out-lawed, or at the very least frowned upon??

As you know I used her image to design the 30th hawg coin and PE patch, ask if she would like one of each (free of course) for giving me the inperation I needed on these two projects. Her design has always been one of my fav...you just can't get better than a buffed-out hawg!!

It must have been 2000...that's when I fought with ACC/LG over the door art issue and lost.

PS, in 2000, we returned from Kuwait and I had a small piece of nose art on my jet, but it was ordered off almost immediately.

OK, I guess it was 2000 (been that long) thanks for the reply and info Coach. You know you can't make the above without letting me know if you have a picture of the nose art or not....and if I can get a scan of it!!

I left the 23rd in 2002 (retired). I remember 213, but can't remember the door art. Which squadron was it when it was removed. We seemed to bouce a few tail #'s between us and the 74th because of the Oa-10 commitments.

213 was always 75th. No jets ever bounced back and forth between the squadrons except for when we deployed, which wasn't really swapping, but mixing. We took half from each since we often did back-to-back deployments, this way one squadron brought the jets/tool/equipmetn there, then only people swapped when one left, and the other squadron brought everything back. The only jet that swapped was 953, after a 74th pilot crashed 676. 676 was 75th, and a damn good je tI might add, and after it was wrecked the 74th gave us 953, which I still swear to this day is the biggest hunk of crap I ever saw.

I think the 213 DCC is now an officer.

Also, my mind must be going, but when did 676 crash?

Not sure of the exact date, but it was in the very beginning of September 2001. I remember because I was on mids that month. I didn't believe it when I heard it. I was in the parking lot walking in on Sunday night when I saw a friend walking out and I was like what are you doing here, and he told me 676 bit the dust. We had sent a few jets cross-country that weekend to help with the flying hour program, and correct me if I'm wrong but I believe they went to Vegas for the wedding of 2 pilots, one 75th and one 74th, but I don't remember who.

I could have sworn Osgood got out Coach, or are you talking about another DCC? I know the guy who was the DCC after him, He went to Korea before before me, but extended and left a few months after I got there. I'm pretty sure hes at Spang.
