The 81FS is here in the UK working with the 48FW Beagles and also doing joint US/UK forces exercises working with the FACs & Army guys and using the various ranges around the UK.

Will be real sweet seeing them about again! They have just completed a range slot using rockets n bombs!

Cheers

How does OPSEC relate to a Aviation Buff seeing a Flight of A10's land at a Joint US/RAF Base. Its always cool shit to see and spread the word to simular aviation buffs.

Nothing can be done about it, unless of course we want to start flying the invisible wonder women planes.

Lakenheath is a Great Community and I hope the HAwgs have a Great Time there.

Most of the time THE PAO publicises these events and notifies the Public via Media about Unit Activities, so that the populace does not come to conclusions as to the why's of the militaries activities. It is ok to tell the public why for example their is a suddent 2 week block of Night Flying for example to help maintain our night currencies, so that they dont come to a conclussion that we are sneaking around or ww3 is taking place.

Cant hide planes in the pattern or from public view throught the fences. it makes me happy to see a Brit aviation Buff Say "hey! The YAnks are here to practice kicking ass and taking names." Its cool shit.

IF we saw an actual Ops Sheet describing aircrews, tails, ordy, and Mission events by schedule. Yeah I would then be concerned about opsec. but certainly nothing you can do about a well trained eyeball passing on an eyewitness account.

Everyone has their own conclussiosn about things. right or wrong.

"The greatest pleasure is to vanquish your enemies, to chase them before you, to rob them of their wealth, to see their near and dear bathed in tears, to ride their horses and sleep on the white bellies of their wives and daughters."

Unfortunatley yes, when the 52nd got a new CO.
The yellow fin caps lend a nice bit of colour but I miss the 'Panther' heads.......sadly my 'Armour' 1/48 A-10 in SP markings is obsolete now!

I remember The Last Raven posting about the removal of the markings last year.
Its great to have these Hogs back, all of the A-10's on the UK TDY served previously with the 81st TFW at Bentwaters/Woodbridge.

Think of it this way, BB...now it's a collector's item. Any new ones won't have the art work!

Yup, the Panther heads had to be removed about a year and a half ago, or so. :( Also, it's a shame 951 doesn't look as good as she used too...and the re-painted her stabs back to yellow again. :( A little bit of luck and I'll be back at Spang, though...

Yojimbo, a rumour was doing the rounds that the Hogs are shipping out on Wednesday, but the more likely date is May 1st.
2xHogs flew in on Friday to join the 13 already on the TDY.
This TDY has gone down a storm, the A-10 has a massive following in the UK, I have seen photographs from everyday of the deployment so far.
The training value has been immense, they have made good use of the ranges and low fly areas, as well as joint ops with the RAF.
With the restrictions in Germany, I should imagine this deployment has been worth every penny.

(I only wish they could hang on until the General Election, I could do with something to take my mind off the horror prospect of another term of 'hard Labour')

Daft Question

What is the possibilty of the A10s returning to the UK
permanently with the current Defense cuts going on in the USAF.
Why have them in Germany anymore.??
Lakenheath, Mildenhall & Fairford could easily accommodate them

How about it Guys !! could it happen

Hi Coach,

The 81FS from Spang have been flying nearly everyday using the
UK ranges, Using 30mm, Rockets, BDU , doing what they do best,
CAS missions, Dogfighting ( ? ) escorting B2s ??, you name it,they have
done it.

Surely that would benefit any Hog Driver to up his skill set
