Well, it's been a while since I've even seen a Hawg but I seem to be the resident expert in my ALS class. But today while finishing up a reading assignment I noticed what I think was a BAD TYPO! We were reading about Airpower in Today's Air Force and there was mention of the A-10. It stated the the A-10 has a capacity of 1350 rounds of 30MM ammo. Now I thought it was a Max load of 1174. And that in the beginning there was a larger drum but it wasn't THAT big? Am I right? Also is the fire rate 65 RPM or is it slower since the variable rate was removed?

I have already corrected another problem in the reading (apparently Doolittle raided Tokyo with B-29's off the Hornet!).
Any help would be appreciated, as I don't like to be taught wrong info in PME!

This was discussed ina previous thread: http://forum.a-10.org/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=8451
It was 1,350 for a little while a long time ago, but now the max capacity is 1,174 and is never loaded past 1,150. Sounds like you have a class full of nonners to school. As for the 65 RPM rate of fire you mention...I think i see a BAD TYPO!! rounds per second is more like it, lol. That numner is about right though. I remember learing 72 RPS in tech school, and I'm on leave right now so I dont have my old CDC's handy to check what they say.

capacity 1,174 +/- 5 rounds, rate of fire 4,200 rounds per minute or about 70 rounds per second.

Rate of fire is 3900 per minute +400/-600 depending on hydraulics loading. It used to selectable at 4200 or 2100 until they did the superkit mod in mid to late 80's. When they installed the Battelle device, they took out the low rate option due to harmonics at low rate. The gun will still fire at low rate if one hydraulics system is inop.
