I flew the new T-6 this week and was way behind the airplane. Flying the pattern at 200 KIAS and flying everywhere else at 235-250 KIAS is a big jump from the Cessna 172's and 182's I'd flown before UPT! I know I'll catch up to the plane eventually, but it got me thinking about the A-10 and what it typically flies around at.

My question is...what is a typical cruising speed (KTAS)and cruising altitude for you guys in a cross country configured A-10? Also, where does the "barber pole" sit in the Airspeed Indicator on the jet?

The barber pole is at 450. A pilot will have to answer the other question.

The A-10 doesn't have an airspeed indicator, because it would always read too low. Some models (early ones) have the sundial, later models have the calendar, most recent mods are digital.

hahaha. That's an old one, but still a good one. Another one is "the A-10 is so slow, it's the only jet in the AF that gets birdstrikes in the rear"

The Navy was thinking about buying the A10... They were going to install a hook by the nose gear door and have the boat just close in from behind (sts) for the trap.
