Saw this article in the Valdosta Daily Times http://www.valdostadailytimes.com/conte ... ission.htm VALDOSTA — The Base Realignment and Closure Commission’s recommendations concerning Moody Air Force Base leave open the possibility the base might play host to the Navy. U.S. Rep. Jack Kingston, R-Savannah, pointed out Friday that the proposals are at this point just that — proposals. The congressman, speaking from his cell phone en route to North Georgia, said the one certainty for Moody is that the base is considered a vital part of the U.S. military’s future plans. “The good news is they recognize the importance of the base,” Kingston said. The congressman had received a letter Friday from Anthony Principi, BRAC committee chairman. One possibility is that Moody may become a Navy base housing carrier-based fighter aircraft. What is unclear is whether Moody would become a joint Air Force-Navy base or whether it would be strictly Navy, said Rob Asbell, King’s aide. While the First District would like to keep the Air Force, Kingston is keeping an open mind. “We need to be supportive of anything that utilizes Moody,” the congressman said. With too many schools for flight training in operation, BRAC will look to consolidate flight missions, said Bill Johnson, Kingston’s chief of staff. That consolidation means some missions will leave Moody. What works in Moody’s favor — and puts it in the list of possibilities as a Navy facility — is that it’s considered a great base internally, Johnson said. It has no encroachment issues, and it’s close to the Navy’s deployment and training areas near the coast. A hearing is schedule for July 18 in Washington, D.C. At that time, Navy and Air Force officials will make their arguments. capche-capche da - we go forward together Faugh ah Ballaugh -Clear The Way- |

Having squid central right next to Valdosta State College would be ugly, very very ugly. It would be a breading ground for STD's. By this time tomorrow I shall have gained either a pearage or Westminster Abbey........Nelson |

This brings up an interesting question, has there ever been an Air Fore base which was converted into a Navy base? I can't think of any off hand. capche-capche da - we go forward together Faugh ah Ballaugh -Clear The Way- |
