Greetings everybody, my name is Brandon and I'm a 22 year old Aviation Management major at Louisiana Tech. I've wanted to fly A-10s all my life, from seeing the guys from England fly as a kid to watching the 706th while I took flying lessons.

I have spent eight years in Civil Air Patrol, four years AFJROTC in high school, and three years AFROTC here at college. Unfortunately I screwed up my senior year and got my tailfeathers caught in a crack-they threw me out with less than a year before commissioning. I have some doubts about the circumstances I was disenrolled under, but I won't bore you with that here. If anybody wants to know more, email me and I'll be glad to share.

As I said earlier, I've wanted to fly Hogs all my life. I had a low 90s score on my AFOQT Pilot score, and my BAT test was around 75-80 or so. My ROTC record was pretty good until I messed up my senior year.

If anybody could point me in the right direction I would DEFINITELY appreciate it-I'd love to fly for the 706th at Belle Chasse since I'm from the area and plan on moving there after I graduate in November. Then again, I'm open to almost any opportunities at this point. If this doesn't work then I'll probably end up taking the Army's offer to go fly helos for a few years :).

Thanks for your time guys-

B Guillot

My advice would be to talk to someone within ANG or AFRES (I can't remember which one the 706th is). But your plans may be hindered with the BRAC going on.

No joke--that was something else I've been wondering. I have a friend in the A-10 AFRES squadron at Barksdale and he says they're getting a bunch of the 706th's planes. I checked the BRAC list and saw the office complexes in downtown New Orleans on it, but nothing about Belle Chasse.

I was hoping I'd find somebody on here from the unit I could talk to.

You need to apply Guard/whiteman. The best way to do it (STS) is to go to every unit's website and start balsting out emails. They will point you in the right direction. I wouldn't rule out everything else. I would apply to every fighter squadron. The most use you can get out of a Viper unit is to interview to get some interview exp. under your belt. As far as BRAC goes.....stand by on that whole deal. BC has a board in November. People still need to be in the pipeline. APPLY EVERYWHERE. Good Luck!

No offense, and I wish you luck, but if you were thrown out of AFROTC that won't look good in any interview...

If you have doubts, then appeal. Otherwise, look for another line of work.

tedstriker,

Any information about the BC board would be great. Last I had heard was they were having a board in early 2006. Did they move it up? I've applied to Maryland (they cancelled their board for this year) and also have an application that I sent to Barnes.

I know Bradley is on the BRAC list as well. However, if anyone has contacts there, I'd very much appreciate any information. My current e-mail is sgavin@fit.edu.

Thanks everyone.

Huge red flag goes up when someone is kicked out of a commissioning source. Granted, we don't know the circumstances but since it's complete and finished we must assume that your officers knew what they were doing. I'd be willing to bet your chances are zero...sorry bro...

Thats like failing out of Junior College and then applying to Harvard.

However, the you might have some luck trying to fly helo's in the Army.
