In the second half of July 2004, approximately 160 Airmen from Spangdahlem AB, Germany, were deployed to a so called Mihail Kogalniceanu Air Base near Constanta, Romania, during a two-week combined exercise, dubbed ROMEX ´05. This deployment included personnel and an undisclosed number of A/OA-10As from the 81st FS “Panthers” (Tailcode “SP”). Last night I posted the following link to the first related USAF news story, titled “Spangdahlem pilots fly missions in Romania” (see my ongoing topic “SPANG´s Warthogs at Lakenheath”): www.af.mil/news/story.asp?storyID=123011204. Today, I decided to post a new topic related to ROMEX ´05. Meanwhile, USAFE published another related news story, titled “Spangdahlem Airmen train with Romanians in first-ever exercise”. This story was released by 52nd FW PA. Here is the link: www.usafe.af.mil/news/news05/uns05231.htm The USAFE news story provides two hi-res photos. One of them shows aircraft “988” (serial number 81-0988), which was recently also deployed to Lakenheath. This photo is also released as hi-res picture at USAF´s main website: www.af.mil/media/photodb/photos/050722-F-6383C-010.jpg Klick the links and have fun! Regards J.J. |

Note: practice Mavericks on stations 3/9. This Romanian air base, often also called as airfield, is co-located to the Constanta International Airport (Aeroportul International Constanta Mihail Kogalniceanu - code: CND), which is near the nice port city of Constanta on the Black Sea coast.
